The Sustainability Value Chain and Reporting Leader is responsible for engaging and driving critical elements of the company’s long-term sustainability strategy for environmental, social and governance (ESG). The position provides solutions driven leadership through collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and developing strong relationships throughout. Efforts include increasing the sustainability of our operations, while embedding sustainable practices and approaches in near and long-term strategic roadmaps across all businesses and functions.


The Leader in this role will be responsible for designing an overarching reporting strategy and discipline for the company. This individual will lead ESG reporting for the organization and will also develop data analytics to further build the business case for sustainability. The role will contribute to building our reputation externally, through targeted ratings and rankings, transparent disclosure, and alignment with investor-focused reporting frameworks and indices. The role will advance the company’s sustainability messaging both internally and externally while ensuring the approximately 20,000 employees understand their role in our sustainability journey.


The Sustainability Value Chain and Reporting Leader is required to engage externally up and down our value chain, as well as with our internal Sourcing teams to develop and implement a responsible supply chain strategy. Areas of coverage include supply chain social and environmental responsibility, material circularity initiatives, traceability of materials and supply chain locations, climate/carbon reductions across the value chain, while collaborating with product sustainability and product managers internally to understand overall impact and needs

Responsibilities

  • Execute sustainability change management and process improvement
    • Lead and ensure the sustainability process across all 3 pillars and ensure assurance
    • Engage in the development and implementation of the company’s enterprise-wide sustainability strategy which includes a short-term business plan and a long-term sustainability vision and goals, targets and metrics
    • Through scenario analysis and other foresight approaches, assess trends, risks, opportunities, and best practices, engage internal and external stakeholders and determine strategic direction
    • Lead the publication of policies and procedures relating to sustainability for change management
    • Manage the benchmarking of sustainability programs across industry peers and ensure best practices are built into Owens Corning’s sustainability reporting
    • Provide input on the internal and external ESG communications strategy and advise on appropriate positioning for the individual business units and overall company
    • Create a roadmap to the SEC ESG draft proposal as well as providing leadership for other country specific requirements
    • Provide an external view of our Sustainability reporting and guide Owens Corning on the future needs and direction of our reporting
    • Continuously drive metric standardization globally across Owens Corning while recommending improvements as needed
    • Driving ESG rankings and ratings, audits, gap assessments, and implementation of action plans to address priorities identified
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Makes recommendations to improve processes and resolve issues as challenges arise
    • Understand trends in sustainability/ESG disclosure expectations and how to plan for evolving expectations, can perform assessments of current performance, and develop recommendations for actions
    • Drive education and engagement on social issues globally while understanding local trends and needs
    • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand market expectations and influence action to close gaps
    • Collaborate and contribute to the development of mechanisms to assess risks, across the enterprise and value chain, while driving transparency


  • Assure Development and Implementation of a Responsible Supply Chain Strategy
    • Coordinate with Supply Chain/Sourcing develop and implement an effective supplier monitoring and training programs for environmental, labor, health and safety
    • In partnership with category leaders, engage with suppliers as they embark on their environmental sustainability journeys, enabling them to adhere to our sustainability standards and proactively identifying collaboration opportunities
    • Track legislation related to human rights and supply chain labor conditions while understanding local and regional expectations through engagement with outside consultants, as necessary
    • Lead and manage cross functional, cross regional programs to examine and improve supplier performance against program expectations
    • Contribute to the overall supply chain responsibility program strategy, roadmap, implementation and communication plan
    • Collaborate on supply chain mitigation plans addressing risks identified in the sustainability report by working cross-functionally
    • Lead the development and delivery of strategy and key initiatives to support supplier decarbonization efforts
    • Work closely with operations, engineering, innovation, sourcing managers, and product managers to source more recycled raw materials, and sustainable / alternative materials to manufacture more circular products
    • Lead supplier and category engagement to achieve our climate change goals for our supply chain
    • Conduct the baseline assessment of supplier maturity to identify hot spots for impact. and define the roadmap for reduction
    • Engage in acquisition and merger process to understand ESG impact, determine risks and development of an action plan
    • Collaborate with Sourcing to ensure rollout of a Scope 3 tool, with particular focus on aligning the method for collecting and integrating primary data from suppliers into holistic measurement.
    • Engages in the development of goals and strategy for the sustainable procurement program that is connected to the corporate sustainability strategy
    • Provides guidance and direction in audits, inspections, risk assessments and due diligence to assure conformity with company policies, as well as international, federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations governing environmental health and safety.
    • Works with Sourcing to develop action plans for supply chain sustainability improvement and incorporation into sustainability roadmap.
    • Proactively act on emerging trends and industry leading practices by staying on top of and driving cutting edge thinking


  • Lead and team across the Company.
  • Lead best practice employee and functional / departmental engagement program and initiatives to embed sustainability into everyday practices, motivate employees and realize cost avoidance and savings
  • Lead programs, initiatives and communications to transition the company to become a sustainability-integrated and aligned organization to attract, retain and engage employees
  • Provide strategic leadership and expert knowledge in embedding sustainability across the organization including functional, business unit and departmental level strategies and mandates
  • Develop partnerships to work and communicate effectively with all levels across the organization
  • Identify and act on opportunities to showcase and highlight Owens Corning’s sustainability practices.
  • Advise executive leadership on corporate governance, particular successes and identified gaps in the journey to being a sustainable company
  • Develop key relationships with other companies to share best practices and learning while ensuring these practices are implemented at Owens Corning
  • Interact with both internal and external stakeholders for feedback and guidance


Job Requirements


Experience:

  • 7+ years experience of broadening assignments and experience, with expertise in a number of functional areas.
  • Experience in multi-national, manufacturing corporations in a corporate setting required.
  • Demonstrated experience with and working knowledge of sustainability trends
  • Bachelors’ degree (or higher) in mathematics, business, engineering, science, or sustainability, or a related field that supports this position
