Job Summary
The Billing Specialist helps with reviewing and processing therapists initial credentialing packets and supporting documentation. This is a Hybrid position.

Responsibilities and Duties

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations

Review and process therapists initial credentialing packets and supporting documentation.

Follow up with therapists to ensure all information is obtained.

Complete and process payer enrollment applications for therapists for Medicare/Medicaid/commercial insurances/managed care or other plans.

Complete timely follow up on all applications.

Maintain therapist profiles and NPI’s and internal spreadsheets.

Ensure that re-credentialing is complete timely to prevent any lapse in enrollment.

Monitor and maintain current documents (licenses, malpractice insurance).

Maintain confidentiality of all therapist’s information.

Verify coverage and eligibility for medical services.

Post charges and payments to correct accounts.

Obtain pre-authorization for certain procedures.

Communicate with insurance providers, therapists and clients.

Review patient bills and correct any missing or inaccurate information.

Use billing software to prepare and transmit claims.

Collect unpaid claims and clear up discrepancies by telephone, fax or email communication.

Use of insurance carrier portals for eligibility and claims information.

Investigate and appeal claims that were denied.

Complete data entry to update spreadsheets and reports.

Work with clients to set up payment plans.

Report to work regularly and on time.

Must comply with company rules, policies, and procedures

Must comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures

Assist in recruiting qualified staff for the new contracts

Attend local job fairs and network with local therapy schools.


Additional Responsibilities and Expectations

Assume other duties and or projections as assigned.


Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements

To perform the Medical Billing Specialist job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required of the company Medical Billing Specialist. Required

Minimum Education required: HS Diploma or G.E.D equivalent required.

At least 2 years recent medical billing experience.

At least 2 years credentialing experience.

Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems

Competent use of computer systems, software and EHR’s.

Familiarity with CPT Coding

Experience with Medicare billing

Experience with credentialing

Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment.

Exceptional Customer Service skills for interacting with patients regarding medical claims and payments, including communication with patients and family members

Ability to work well in a team environment

Ability to triage priorities and handle conflict in a reasonable fashion

Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, collections

Maintaining patient confidentiality as per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

Ability to multitask

Mathematical ability sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and figure averages.

Daily sitting focusing on and operation of a personal computer or terminal keyboard to enter data for over 60 minutes at a time.


Worksite Environment

The Medical Billing Specialist will primarily be working at the Resource Center or a remote location. This environment has no hazardous Health and Safety exposures. However, Health and Safety precautions must be taken at all times.
