The State of New Hampshire, Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services has a part time vacancy for Environmental Technician.

Summary :

Collects, compiles and presents data related to field surveys and habitat restoration, and makes recommendations to standardize and develop technical aspects of environmental programs within the Adjutant General’s Environmental Section.

Responsibilities :

Develops protocol and performs fauna and/or flora surveys and inventories of the Adjutant General’s Department properties. Surveys and inventories may include, but are not limited to native, non-native and invasive species of plants, moths, butterflies, reptiles, amphibians and mammals.

Performs habitat restoration activities including non-native and non-desirable species removal, native plant species seed collection and plantings and maintaining habitat restoration planting areas including drip irrigation watering systems.

Operates Geographic Information System (GIS) software and collects GIS data utilizing a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. Generates maps, tables and charts analyzing trends in data and results of inventory and management activities.

Prepares inventory and survey reports or data records utilizing personnel computers and various software packages, using the standard scientific format and including purpose, methods, results, and conclusions as well as recommendations for improvement of future surveys.

Makes recommendations for future management of the Adjutant General’s Department lands and designated habitat restoration areas utilizing information collected in current and previously performed surveys and management plans for incorporation into Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans and other management plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or technical college or two years of college with a major study in environmental engineering, one of the physical or biological sciences, or other related environmental science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two years' experience performing technical environmental work in air analysis, noise or water quality control, forestry, soils, hydrology, geology, botany, biology or a related environmental field. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degre

3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree

4.5 Years additional relevant experience = Master's Degree

License/Certification : Valid driver’s license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Occasional physical effort required in travel throughout the state and in walking and climbing over rough terrain; duties are generally performed under good working conditions with occasional exposure to minor injuries or toxic chemicals under certain field conditions.

  • Must pass a National Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) used in the performance of assigned work duties and be eligible for renewal as a condition of employment.

  • Must be able to satisfactorily undergo a State Police records check.
