Position Title: Employment Training Specialist

Location: Fowlerville High School

Reports To: Transition Coordinator


SUMMARY
: Work with local district special education teachers and Michigan Rehabilitation Services transition counselors supporting work-based learning project (WRAP) and development of post secondary planning for MRS services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
.

  • WRAP program liaison between schools and MRS;
  • Secure community work sites/placements for students
  • Establish individual work training agreements/plans between all parties in project
  • Maintain all records for community placements
  • Supervise students in WRAP project, in conjunction with district teacher and MRS representative.
  • Monthly meetings with teachers and MRS representatives to review student performance and progress in program.
  • Provide written summary of work readiness assessments and arrange for needed supports for students based on evaluations.
  • Classroom support for WRAP students
  • Provide interest inventory assessments in conjunction with MRS
  • Provide follow up services for students in WRAP project regarding job interests
  • Provide support for job placement skills – applications, portfolios, interviewing skills, etc. with teachers
  • Assist with soft skills training – attitude, attendance, appearance/hygiene, employer expectations, work place safety, etc.
  • Pre-employment Transition Services (Career Exploration) provided to 10th grade and 11th grade groups of students (approximately 8 in each group), and individual PreETS services for seniors (approximately 3-5 students)
  • Attend monthly Transition Team meetings
  • Acquire Employment Training Specialist Certification (when available)


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Will supervise students in conjunction with local district teachers assigned to WRAP project.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
:

Associates degree in education, or related human service area (Bachelor preferred)
Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
Experience with job coaching and employment evaluation preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Employment Training Specialist Certification preferred (will be required and training provided if not already certified). Liability insurance coverage required.


LANGUAGE SKILLS
:

Ability to read and follow task lists with students, communicate job coaching techniques and provide feedback to students and staff. Ability to communicate effectively with business contacts and teachers. Ability to write summary reports for students in regard to WRAP project.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
:

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to data collection, statistical inferences, and apply concept to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to understand disabilities in students and how they manifest in work setting. Ability to apply job coaching, modeling and fading techniques as students progress through the project. Ability to assess student growth and needs accurately and report these to vocational rehabilitation counselor and teachers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally sit and walk and sometimes stand. Employee will be commuting between schools and work sites in order to evaluate students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as typed material. Hearing abilities used while performing this job are hearing conversation in a quiet or noisy environment. The employee will frequently interact with the public and other staff and occasionally work extended hours.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Work is performed indoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well being and work out put of students.


Contractual position:

WRAP Contract: $30.00/hour; contractor will be responsible for reporting income through 1099 issued form. Approximately 750 hours/contract annually;
Pre Employment Transition Services Contract: $TBD rate based on MRS funding restructure/student for group services (8 sessions), $30/hour individual services to senior status students.
