ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Director of Student Financial Aid is responsible for providing equity-centered leadership, direction and management in all aspects of student financial aid. The director manages all federal, state and institutional aid programs, determines eligibility for aid and makes and approves appropriate awards, and oversees the student payroll functions associated with workstudy awards. In partnership with the Dean of Student Enrollment, the director sets department vision and strategic planning aligned with the division and College Strategic Plan.
The Director will lead the Financial Aid office by establishing and communicating clear expectations of employees, defining and ensuring high quality and efficient delivery of service, reviewing and refining policy, and establishing and maintaining accountability. The director is responsible for maintaining records and submitting required reports to meet federal and state compliance requirements and internal policies, and serves as the financial aid compliance officer for the College. The director trains staff, assigns and schedules work, acts upon leave requests, conducts annual performance evaluations and recommends disciplinary action.
The director is responsible for promoting and maintaining ethics, integrity, accuracy, and timeliness in the delivery of financial aid, providing comprehensive information and clear policies and procedures for students and their parents/guardians and families to make informed decisions regarding the financing of their education, and clarifying the types of financial assistance to the students.

Administrative

- Lead development of and assess the success, effectiveness and appropriateness of these funding services for students;
- Ensure compliance with accountability standards through the collection, analysis and interpretation of data to make informed decisions;
- Promote equity, diversity and inclusion in efforts to continuously improve student funding model
- Provide leadership, management and coordination in administering all federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs.
- Provide direction and oversight of the Student Payroll Office
- Act as a liaison between the department and other identified stakeholders
- Monitor updates and attend training from the state to further support the office
- Oversee and maintain accountability for department budgets, using funds effectively
- Coordinate department goals, objectives and assessments in alignment with the division and College Strategic Plan
- Remain current on best practices on the awarding of aid, including assessment of the delivery of services and awarding practices
- Create and submit quarterly and annual reports
- Supervise, train, evaluate and provide leadership to a dynamic team with a focus on innovation to improve student outcomes
- Foster a commitment to excellent student-centered service
- Represent the college at meetings, on various associations and committees
Overall management
- Adjudicate academic, dependency and aid extension petitions
- Facilitate regular team planning meetings
- Interpret and implement government compliance requirements and ensuring ongoing institutional compliance
- Collaborate with the Workforce Office to coordinate funding sources and awarding
- Update Financial Aid policies and procedures in conjunction with changes in institutional, state and federal regulations, and communicate pertinent changes with campus stakeholders
- Assist with Gainful Employment reporting and disclosure requirements (reporting, net price calculator, disclosure, gainful employment accountability, etc.)
- Responsible for facilitating the resolution of customer service complaints and/or concerns
- Develop procedures to enhance collaboration with Student Affairs departments to promote effective enrollment management at the college
- Ensure annual updates and other parameter changes are made to the Financial Aid software
- Compile statistical data and complete institutional reporting requirements including college certifications, federal, state and institutional reports
- Administer scholarship programs, to include community scholarships, state specialized scholarships, and GRC Foundation scholarships.
- Develop and implement operating policies and procedures resulting compliant, compassionate, ethical and fiscally responsible practices
- Allocate resources to students in a manner that enhances student access, retention and completion
- Facilitate efforts to increase student access and retention through collaborative interaction with other student affairs departments and campus divisions
- Conduct workshops and provide outreach services on campus and for local high schools and agencies
Staff Supervision, Training and Evaluation
- Interview, select, train, supervise and evaluate staff, which includes approving leave, recommending disciplinary action and training, and providing professional development opportunities
- Coordinate orientations and professional development for new and continuing staff to ensure compliance with departmental programs goals and objectives, along with college policies and procedures
- Assign projects, tasks, assignments and functions to all program staff
- Utilize College personnel regarding recruitments, employee policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Master’s Degree preferred with five years of comprehensive financial aid experience
- Demonstrated commitment to access, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Computer proficiency: Array of computer skills including knowledge of financial aid software and a working knowledge of databases
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills
- Experience supervising staff
- Experience managing budgets
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of federal and state financial aid programs.
- Knowledge of employment regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish an inclusive work environment and interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to use sound judgment and maintain fiscal accountability.
