NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY
Job Title: Crime Victim Advocate
This position is responsible for providing support and assistance to people who have been victimized by violence or other criminal acts. The incumbent will assist victims in navigating the legal system and offer emotional support during the healing process. The incumbent assists victims with locating and applying for resources needed to recover, such as counseling services, financial services, etc. The work is performed under the supervision of the
District Attorney or designee. Does related work as required.
Work Hours: Part time, 17 hours per week, no benefits
Salary: $18.2559-23.1072/HR (CSEA Union)
Location: Cortland County District Attorney’s Office
Status: Competitive, Provisional
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State
Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in human services, psychology, criminal justice or a closely related field; or
(b) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State
Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s degree or higher in human services, psychology, criminal justice or a closely related field and two (2) years of work experience providing assistance to victims of crime; or
(c) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of work experience providing assistance to victims of crime; or
(d) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) (b) and (c) above.
NOTE:
Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/cfm. Applicants must pay the required evaluation fee.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience may be prorated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated.
Pre-employment screenings required.
