The Scrubgrass Generating Plant is located in Kennerdell, Venango County, Pennsylvania.

The facility is designed to convert the bituminous mining refuse (GOB) left over from decades of coal mining in the region into energy. Employing state-of-the art circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler technology, the facility is able to efficiently burn low BTU refuse in an environmentally safe and beneficial manner. Scrubgrass produces approximately 85 megawatts of electricity-enough for about 80,000 homes.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Assistant Plant Operator is responsible for assisting in the operation and routine preventive/predictive maintenance of the power plant systems, including material handling systems equipment. He or she will record operational data and report any abnormalities.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Maintains adequate flow of material in fuel, limestone and ash systems.

Performs all preventative maintenance of fuel, limestone and ash systems during normal operations and during assignments to maintenance including outages.

Maintains fuel, limestone, and ash systems by way of consistent housekeeping and other areas as directed by the Shift Supervisor.

Demonstrates safe working habits, identifies hazards and takes corrective actions as approved by Shift Supervisor.

Assists the O&M Technician as required.

Studies to become qualified as an O&M Technician and/or Maintenance Technician.

Work schedule is rotating shifts, and successful candidate must be available for emergency call-ins, for relief shift duty, and for temporary assignments to assist mechanics in the maintenance department.

Other duties as assigned.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Requires knowledge of own assignments and eventually others in the department, as well as, that of company structure and operations. Should possess an understanding of the departmental goals and activities. Perform other duties as required by plant conditions.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Assistant Plant Operator reports to the Shift Supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical requirements include: working on feet for 12 hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language and perform mathematical computations; high school diploma (or equivalent) preferred.

Two years' experience with the operation of power plant equipment, or equivalent.

Knowledge of general mechanical equipment, including knowledge of general maintenance functions and operating procedures.

Ability, when qualified, to start up, operate and shut down material handling and water systems in the local control modes to maintain plant safety, efficiency and production.

Ability to perform routine inspections, trouble shooting and corrective actions, and reports timely information to the Shift Supervisor.

Familiarity with job site practices and procedures.

Demonstrated skills in the use of hand tools.

Knowledge and understanding of:

· Operating principles of boilers and other power plant machinery

· Mobile equipment

· Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work

· Basic maintenance and repair skills

Ability to handle a variety of power tools in a safe manner.

Ability, under proper supervision, to locate, correct and adjust defects in mobile equipment and mechanical machinery.

Basic knowledge of mechanical drawings and schematics.

Ability to communicate, both written and oral, clearly, logically and accurately.

Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
