Background

Good Samaritan Community Services is a 501(c) 3 organization that provides comprehensive services to more than 3,500 individuals and 1,200 families in various locations in South and West Texas. Since 1939 we have focused on serving the social, educational and health equity needs of our neighbors and our mission to "actively serve as a catalyst for change, supporting youth, individuals, and families by providing excellent community services to overcome economic poverty.

We do this through a continuum of services designed to stabilize families, establish nurturing relationships, and foster self-sufficiency in those we serve through the programs and supports we provided via our Family Services and Youth and Teen Departments. Good Samaritan began as a downtown mission of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in 1939 and was established as an institution of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas in 1951 under the leadership of Bishop Everett Jones in 1951.


Position Summary

The YAC Coordinator will work closely with ABC program staff and identified Brownsville ISD school to coordinate and facilitate the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) leadership program to middle school and high school youth. Primary duties include scheduling YAC meetings and service projects as a vehicle to help youth develop leadership skills. YAC Coordinator is also responsible for delivering services to help youth gain the skills and knowledge needed to prepare for and successfully transition into post-secondary education.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university with major coursework in Education, Youth Development, Social Sciences, or related field preferred. Experience and/or active college enrollment may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of working with youth required.
  • At least 2 years of relevant program management required. Experience in management role with youth and teen programs preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, according to business needs and requirements.


Essential Duties & Functions

  • Demonstrate adherence to the CORE values of Good Samaritan Community Services.
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to Grant Agreement, organization, and selected Program Model(s).
  • Provide YAC oversight, to include developing and managing Youth activities, supporting and monitoring performance related to projects, and planning for improvements where needed.
  • Coordinate and facilitate YAC meetings and services per program and contract guidelines.
  • Conduct outreach to increase awareness of YAC and ABC program services.
  • Coordinate retention efforts to keep youth engaged in YAC activities and organize leadership development activities for youth.
  • Serve as YAC coordinator contact and liaison during the CYD Youth Summit planning and chaperone field trips and other off campus YAC activities including CCC and Teen Summit.
  • Develop a communication plan in coordination with the ABC Coordinator.
  • Deliver curricula and develop lesson plans as needed.
  • Deliver post-high school awareness readiness curriculum and activities to youth 6th-12th grade
  • Provide goal setting and career planning services to youth.
  • Guide and advise youth on the college admissions and application processes.
  • Guide and advise youth on the college financial aid processes.
  • Guide and advise youth through college enrollment and transition.
  • Assist youth with identifying and applying for additional financial resources.
  • Identify and coordinate academic programs and college tours as needed.
  • Track youth behavior and progress and complete incident reports as required.
  • Report significant incidents involving participants to immediate supervisor and case manager
  • Input required program data into appropriate data system(s) and prepare and submit monthly reports as needed.
  • Ensure YAC goals for Youth safety, engagement, participation, leadership skill, and community building are met.
  • Maintain safe and clean program and office environments for program participants, staff, and agency and follow and enforce health and safety rules at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ABC Coordinator based on program and agency needs.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and also requires the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, one must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, type, have close vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus with good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift between 25-35 pounds. These physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and occasionally 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and two Saturdays per month with some evenings and weekend hours based on program needs.

Travel
Local and regional travel is required.
