Overview:
Basic job responsibilities include:
Department 341 Welding & NDT Engineering – Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing is looking for an additional team member for the supplier development welding engineering group. The group supports both the Electric Boat suppliers and internal engineering organizations with respect to the welding and fabrication of the components used in the construction of nuclear submarines.
Basic job responsibilities include:
- Review and approval of supplier welding procedures
- Provide technical guidance and expertise with respect to construction support, problem resolution and corrective actions for welding performed by suppliers
- Provide support to supplier qualifying new welding procedures
- Evaluate the capabilities and capacity of prospective suppliers
- Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field on welding
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- At least one year engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications

Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of operations (Gildart/Gabriel)
Preferred:
- Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering
- Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications
- The ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications and engineering drawings
- Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
- Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with both a technical and nontechnical audience
- Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
