Job Summary:

This position is responsible for managing Trauma Registry activities and facilitating continuous quality assessment and improvement in the delivery of trauma care by data collection, data management, data analysis, and reporting of trauma program activities and results in compliance with the Virginia Department of Health Office of EMS Trauma Registry guidelines, the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCOT) recommendations.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the management and operation of the Digital Innovations v5® registry program.
  • Maintains data in compliance with the requirements of the Virginia Department of Health Office of EMS Trauma.
  • Develops and maintains a system to identify all patients who present to Mary Washington Hospital, Stafford Hospital and Lee's Hill Emergency Department for treatment of traumatic injury.
  • Analyzes and codes injury severity for all traumatized patients and enters all reportable cases in the Trauma Registry.
  • Uses statistics and reports to document activities of the Trauma Program and provides statistical information as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia Trauma Program.
  • Analyze, summarize, and display data in a variety of formats for the purpose of reporting using Access, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Interacts with other areas, e.g. software manufacturer, EMS companies, nursing units, medical examiner's office to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Assists with monitoring of Performance Improvement indicators, identifies charts for review and assists with trending of indicators.
  • Identify and record quality improvement issues identified in the initial data entry of the trauma patient record, issues identified by the trauma clinicians during the patients hospital stay in the Trauma Registry and tracks all issues through the QI process in collaboration with the trauma team.
  • Uses the Trauma Registry to identify outreach opportunities, trauma prevention and education needs. Coordinate and support the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committees, including agendas, minutes, etc.
  • Actively participates in meetings and educational offerings with other Trauma Registrars and complies with continuing education requirements for hospital Trauma Designation/Verification.
  • Prepares reports for trauma meetings and administration.
  • Assists Trauma Staff in preparing research and assisting in publication development.
  • Serves as a resource for trauma related quality improvement projects.
  • Provides administrative support and coverage within the Trauma Services office.
  • Cross-train trauma services personnel in the use and support functions of the trauma registry as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED. Associates degree in health care related field preferred.
  • One (1) year of registry experience desired, preferably in Trauma. Two (2) years of experience in acute care setting preferred.
  • Medical Terminology, Database Management, Report Writing required immediately upon hire.
  • ICD-10-CM Coding Training, AAAM AIS Scoring Certificate, Trauma Registrar Course Certificate, required within 2 years.
  • Proficient in usage of computers, including the Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and Trauma Collector® or comparable trauma registry software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
