Position Summary:
The Transportation Spend Manager will direct Transportation Spend Management (TSM) activities for the truck and rail aspects of Ingevity’s overall freight spend. The manager acts as a liaison between the transportation planning team, plant receiving departments, accounts payable and customer service export teams. This role coordinates the team in researching and resolving discrepancies with freight carriers, vendors, and Ingevity plants using the TMS, SAP, Coupa, QTS, BDP and other off-line systems. This is a cross functional role involving supervision of the Truck and Rail teams as well as participating and assisting the team in completing the freight settlement process. The manager plays a key role in developing and modifying freight payment systems, procedures and policies. The manager will participate in optimization activities to identify necessary process and policy modifications intended to improve the freight payment process and reduce manual freight payment intervention and ultimately freight and operating costs.
How you will impact Ingevity:
  • Lead the teams responsible for all aspects of freight settlement for Truck and Rail including but not limited to Dispute Management, carrier statement reconciliation and technical troubleshooting in both LBN and S/4Hana TM.
  • Provide staff training and direct daily activities.
  • Resolve and reconcile carrier rating and billing discrepancies that exist within various Ingevity systems (TMS, SAP, etc.).
  • Audit freight invoice exceptions daily. Review for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and approve and pass on to manual payment system for processing.
  • Research carrier accessorial spend (detention, no-shows, etc.), and assess validity and proper costs, communicating results to transportation management.
  • Work with transportation management to develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely payment for freight expense. Assist in the development of an automated freight bill and pay system as directed by management.
  • Communicate with carrier representatives to resolve billing/payment issues. Ensure compliance with Transportation Services Agreement payment terms. Resolve discrepancies, short-pays, non-planned freight, or manual freight. Resolution to be maintained within a 48-hour "window" unless exceptions require further investigation.
  • Assist Supply Chain Controller in calculating month-end freight accruals.
  • As directed, perform historical cost analysis and administrative duties in support of Transportation Team projects.
What you need to succeed:
  • A four-year degree in a business field is required with a minimum of five or more years of logistics planning, freight forwarding, or freight payables related to rail, truck, ocean, or air.
  • Experience and knowledge in audit and reconciliation processes and practices.
  • Strong data skills primarily in Excel spreadsheets, data mining, and data presentation. An understanding of basic financial/costs analysis techniques, reporting, and principles.
  • Written and verbal communication skills that explain process flows, accounting flows, and audit practices, and to work with plant, accounting, and transportation representatives.
  • This role is eligible for relocation.
  • This role is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. The successful candidate must not now, or in the future, require sponsorship to work in the US.
