We are seeking a qualified individual for a role in our Quality department as a Surgical Clinical Reviewer. The qualified candidate will collect and submit reliable data to the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Data Registry Platform. The Surgical Clinical Reviewer works closely with the members of the Department of Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvements and other special projects that are identified.

The successful candidate will participate in data compilation for audits and initial and re-accreditation site visits as well as other opportunities as they arise at the direction of the System Director of Quality, program medical director, or coordinator. Work directly with the coordinator of Bariatric Surgery, Surgery Champions and facilitate NSQIP/MBSQIP meetings.

Additional responsibilities include: Collect preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, and long-term (six month and annual thereafter) follow-up data components for the program through the effective utilization of the hospital/office medical record systems and through a coordinated effort with individual surgeon office staff. Appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program. Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis. Monitors data and organizes review of data with presentations to the medical director, department of surgery, MBS Committee and at the direction of the System Quality Director. The candidate will work with

Bariatric Services: MBSAQIP SAR data and Quality Services: NSQIP SAR data. Facilitates quality initiatives; compiles and tracks necessary tracking data to monitor outcomes as directed using a PDSA cycle. Provides assistance to staff and patients at informational seminars including attendance, registrations, and follow up calls as needed.

Quality Services: Other administrative duties as directed by Surgeon Champion, Medical Director, Coordinator, and System Director of Quality. Bariatric Services: Other administrative duties as directed by the Coordinator Bariatric Surgery program. Provides team members/providers with all MBSAQIP or NSQIP updates as they arise.

Educational / Minimum Requirements:

Highschool Degree or equivalent GED.

LPN - from an accredited program

RN - 2 or 4 year degree from an accredited program

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:

Clinical experience preferred. RHIA, or RHIT or, MA or, LPN or, RN preferred but not required.

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:

General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by the Hospital.

Special Requirements:

Minimum one year experience in a hospital surgery department.

Understanding of medical terminology.

Bariatric Services: Certified by MBSAQIP/ACS to complete data entry and upload

Quality Services: Certified by ACS to complete data entry and upload

Computer and internet experience required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and G-Suite programs.

Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience is preferred.

Hospital system knowledge and understanding of process and flow.

Chart review experience.

Basic statistical knowledge preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Looking at a computer monitor. Vision acuity correctable to normal. Hearing acuity correctable to normal. Acute sense of smell for normal perception. Ability to verbalize so that the average person can comprehend.

Work Environment:

Able to work in a fast-paced work environment to meet 100% data in-put into the MBSAQIP registry.

Ability to multi-task by managing data entry, data abstraction from multiple software modules, managing phone triage, and quality data tracking. Ability to keep the work area organized and clean.

Cognitive Requirements:

Able to problem solve and complete the required tasks of the position. Able to work as an integral part of the bariatric team.
