Special Education Paraprofessionals are essential to the Life Male STEAM Academy.
The primary function of all staff is to develop classrooms where students’ cultural backgrounds are seen as assets and their potential is uncovered daily. Special Education Paraprofessionals will facilitate instruction and learning for students according to their educational needs, abilities, and promote their attainment in designated subject matter or grade level areas in accordance with the curriculum and/or other educational programs adopted by the Board of Directors. The Special Education Paraprofessional, under general supervision, provides assistance to a classroom teacher, performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting; assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management as well as instruction. The special education paraprofessional performs related duties as required or assigned.
Special Education Paraprofessionals are expected to engage students through culturally responsive interactions. Special education paraprofessionals assist students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. Paraprofessionals generally work in an inclusionary setting (i.e. least restrictive environment). The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, help special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.
Life Male Steam Academy consists of diverse groups of students at all levels, and we promote enthusiasm for learning and for all subjects; adhere to national and state standards; maintain detailed records of student performance; and maintain classroom order.
Qualifications:
Pennsylvania Special Education Paraprofessional License or Certification preferred, training in special education concepts, behavior management/modification
1. Entry-level Paraprofessionals should have some classroom or teaching experience, whether it’s from volunteering or tutoring. Those who earned an associate degree in paraprofessional education should have enough experience for an entry-level role. Paraprofessionals working with special needs students should have at least 3 years of experience. Senior-level Paraprofessionals should have at least 5 years of experience.

5. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Carries to completion in a timely manner, instructional and supportive activities as assigned by the supervising teacher
2. Work with special education students may include lifting, feeding, and other services
3. Assisting students in achieving academic success
4. Working with students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class
5. Behavior support which includes physical management (previous training taken into consideration along with training upon hire)
6. Works with students, both in‐group settings or individually, for the purpose of assisting with specific instructional tasks
7. Assists teachers in handling and updating confidential student information such as IEP’s. 3. Under the teacher’s supervision, implements instructional programs for the purpose of meeting student’s goals and objectives
8. As needed, advises students regarding personal hygiene and assists students with self‐help skills involving grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene
9. Social integration
10. Consultation and collaboration with Special Education Coordinator and Teaching Staff
11. Other duties as assigned
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $28,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
