The department of Public Safety has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Security Officer, Dispatcher to work at the UHealth Campus. The Security Officer- Dispatcher provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff, customers, visitors, and persons conducting business in an assigned facility by continually looking for situations that could interrupt the normal business flow and taking immediate steps to eliminate the risk. Additionally, engages in loss and crime prevention activities to protect University assets.

  • Monitoring in-coming calls from all campus buildings.

  • Monitor and dispatch officers to different types of calls and emergencies.

  • Monitor security breaches, perimeter breaches, and temperature alarms from all medical campus and satellite buildings.

  • Assist with all emergency calls for assistance and disasters.

  • Provide excellent customer service skills to patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Able to use good verbal intervention techniques and de-escalate situations if necessary.

  • Assist with emergency calls by notifying Miami Fire Rescue, PD-1 Officer on campus or Miami Police Department.

  • Complete reports and incident documentation as necessary.

  • Work in an independent atmosphere with minimal supervision.

  • Maintain daily shift logs as assigned.

  • Maintain good communication with Shift Supervisor, Lead Officer and FTO Officers.

  • Responds to all building alarm signals and protects vehicles parked in University parking spaces.

  • Assists in monitoring failure or malfunction of electrical and utility systems.

  • Detects and reports campus safety problems.

  • Takes remedial and corrective steps and notifies management for all abnormal conditions.

  • Monitors unauthorized individuals and escorts them from the premises or calls the police.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle

  • Valid State of Florida driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Must be punctual, dependable, ability to stay calm under high stressful situations and be able to multi-task.

  • Excellent customer service skills required to handle all levels of personnel, patients, and visitors.

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University’s core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
