Secondary Curriculum and Instructional Specialist

Primary Responsibility:
Provides system-wide leadership in the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of educational programming within the district, with special focus on middle and high schools. The Specialist reports to the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. The Specialist will work collaboratively with to support the district vision: Lead with respect, trust, and courage. Ensure an equitable, collaborative, and inclusive culture. Enable all to achieve success. The specialist collaborates closely with principals, teacher leaders, teachers, support staff, other administrators, and other members of the school community to meet the following responsibilities:
- Ensure equitable high-quality learning experiences for all students to maximize learning, achievement, and personal growth
- Provide leadership in curriculum, instruction, and assessment including: curriculum development and enhancement in alignment with standards; enhancement of a comprehensive assessment system; implementation of research and evidence-based practices; instructional resource review and procurement; and other activities that promote teacher growth and student learning
- Collaboratively support the ongoing development and work in alignment with the district’s continuous improvement process and plan, multi-tiered system of supports framework, and diversity, equity and inclusion strategy.
- Plan and implement high-quality professional learning for staff in collaboration with principals, teacher leaders, and the curriculum team
- Provide leadership in data collection, analysis, program evaluation, and action planning aligned with principles of equity and continuous improvement
- Provide leadership and support to various district and school programs such as: the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, counseling, career development, learning coaches, and Project Lead The Way
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff (teacher leaders, teachers, IB Coordinators, learning coaches, office professionals, and others) as assigned
- Assist in the development and coordination of budgets related to curriculum office functions including state and federal grants
- Performs other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
A master’s degree is required. Both undergraduate and graduate work must be of exceptionally high quality. Evidence of strong professional development in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment are desirable.
Educational and Work Experience:
At least five years of teaching with excellent quality is preferred. Evidence of experience and leadership in the areas of curriculum, assessment, instruction, program evaluation, supervision, and mentoring/coaching are desirable. Previous administrative experience with evidence of leadership strength is desirable.
Certification:
A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate and Michigan Administrative Certificate (or willingness to obtain within state timelines) are required. The candidate must meet all requirements for continuing education as outlined under section 1246 (1) of the Revised School Code.
