Job description
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of entry level to semi-skilled snow removal operations on public roadways and other transportation corridors.
The following duties are illustrative only and not intended to be all inclusive:
- Drives tandem and single axel dump trucks equipped with front plow, granular spreader hopper, and/or liquid spray applicator. May perform routine maintenance on equipment; operates front-end loader to safely load material into hopper.
- Responsible for safely clearing snow from city streets and rights-of-way and applying material in an efficient manner along pre-determined plow routes. May also perform after storm event clean up and ice mitigation activities.
- May work irregular hours, weekends, evening, holidays, and/or emergencies as required to respond to Public Works maintenance needs.
- Facilitates good communication with coworkers and supervisors. This includes sharing information and receiving feedback, listening to and respecting input, participating in work group conversations, and directly dealing with issues that arise.
- Remains generally alert to conditions and events occurring on public rights-of-way indicating anticipated or needed repairs.

- Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.
- Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property.
KNOWLEDGE / SPECIALTIES: Some experience with heavy equipment snow removal such as: Brooms, Tractors, Loaders, Blowers, Graders, Pushers, Sanders, and Plows (single & tandem)

TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Must have current Commercial Driver’s License Class B at a minimum and current DOT medical card.
EXPERIENCE: One to two years of related experience in equipment operation or snow removal. Previous outside experience will count, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
PERFORMANCE & SAFETY: Candidates must demonstrate acceptable record of Safety and Job Performance.
Position will work assigned snow shifts during a snow event and could be either day or nighttime shifts. Shifts could be assigned either in advance of a snowstorm or at the last minute to replace another driver. Shifts last up to 12 hours; overtime will be earned when working over 40 hours within a work week. Ability to respond within 45 minutes of being called to the city’s Service Center located at 1700 Avalon Ave, Lafayette, CO 80026.
