Company Overview:
As a Safety Coordinator (Inspector) on the $3.3BN Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion Project (HRBT) in Virginia, you will assist the Deputy Safety Manager with various duties such as ensures that the construction site meets building codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications.
The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of VINCI Construction, Dragados, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45 diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.
Principle Accountability and Responsibility:
- Reviews plans to ensure they meet construction site safety codes, local ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications
- Ensures that the construction site s water and sewer systems, highways, streets, bridges, and dams conforms to detailed contract specifications.
- Inspects excavation and fill operations, the placement of forms for concrete or precast elements, concrete mixing and pouring, asphalt paving, and grading operations.
- Reviews blueprints, writing reports, and schedules on-site inspections.
- Coordinates and conducts safety training
- Approves construction plans that are satisfactory
- Monitor construction sites periodically to ensure overall compliance
- Uses survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections
- Verifies alignment, level, and elevation of structures to ensure site meets specifications
- Issues violation notices and stop-work orders until construction site is compliant
- Keeps and tracks daily logs, including photographs taken during inspections
- Provides written documentation of findings
- Fosters companies policies and JV programs onsite, and enforces them with the employees (staff+labor)
Education and Experience:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency
- OSHA 30
- 7 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with construction jobsites and equipment
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Strongly Encouraged:
- Bachelor s degree in Engineering or Construction
- Previous experience in the US is a plus
