Overview:
The Residential Advisor (RA) is responsible for overseeing the residential life of students in one of the Academic Scholars programs. A Residential Advisor must be a recent high school graduate, or a recent graduate of The Lawrenceville School. Residential Advisors’ responsibilities are to assist with the residential life of students in one of the Academic Scholars programs. The residential advisors work together with the Head of House and their respective program director to provide support, guidance, and supervision to the students participating in the program. The Residential Advisor position requires responsible leadership skills and maturity in working with students only a little younger than themselves.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist the program director and Head of House with both the move-in and move-out days, including attendance at the opening House meeting.
  • Oversee study hall from 8:00pm to 10:00pm each night of the program.
  • Help enforce an 11pm lights out every other night.
  • Assist the Head of House in enforcing all House rules and communicate to the Head of House and program director if violations occur.
  • Will be present in the lunch room for all meals and will travel with students to any off-campus activities as required by the program director.
  • Assist program director with day to day activities related to the program as needed.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma (by start of program)
  • Previous experience supervising children and young adults, preferably in a school or camp environment. Examples include, but are not limited to: babysitting, peer tutoring, serving as the captain of a sports team, camp counselor (at School Camp or elsewhere), prefect (especially in a Lower house at Lawrenceville)
  • A desire to serve students and to participate fully in a residential academic community
  • Strong time management skills and be able to complete tasks and meet deadlines
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all professional interactions with students, their families, peers, the leadership team and the larger community
  • Tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Able to remain calm in emergency situations
  • CPR and first aid certification preferred
