The position applies the principles of the natural and social sciences for the detection, evaluation, control and management of those factors in the environment which influence the public’s health. This position performs, under supervision, professional and technical activities which may include the investigation and inspection of the various aspects of environmental health control. Work is performed in the office and in the field. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel. A Public Health Sanitarian does related work as required.

Pay: $28.33 - $34.21 per hour

Application Question(s):

  • Do you have an Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university including 60 credit hours, with a minimum of 15 credit hours in the natural sciences such as biology, chemistry or physics, of which not more than six (6) credit hours may be in the applied sciences such as environmental technology, sanitation technology, medical technology, public health, infection control or food science; AND do you have five years of full-time, paid experience as a Public Health Technician deemed satisfactory by the local Commissioner of Health or Public Health Director AND completed a public health training course approved by the State Health Department?
  • Do you have possession of a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university AND have you completed 30 credit hours in the natural sciences such as biology, chemistry or physics, of which not more than 12 credit hours may be in the applied sciences such as environmental technology, sanitation technology, medical technology, public health, infection control or food science?
