Northrop Grumman 's Space Systems - Propulsions Division is currently looking for a Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to work in our Bacchus (Magna) location with periodic assignments at our Promontory, UT location.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Systems Engineer is responsible for development of requirements, verification planning and change integration for our major solid rocket motor systems. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for actively participating in the development of new systems and system upgrades by managing architecture, requirements, verification, and integrated change control processes in a disciplined, broad reaching process, to ensure our propulsion systems projects perform to specification and satisfy every customer need. The Systems Engineering at Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems is primarily model based supporting multiple defense contracts.
Within Propulsion Systems, systems engineering provides a gateway to many other leadership opportunities within Propulsion Systems and roles could include aspects of project engineering, and design engineering.
Job Duties:
The primary responsibility of the systems engineer in this position is to provide leadership in model-based digital flowdown of architecture and requirements while retrieving and capturing compliance data from various sources into the systems engineering model.
Evaluate all customer requirements and flow down in specifications and determine implementation approach
Analyze the needs of the system and translate into verifiable performance and design requirements
Determine and manage verification methodology and approach for each requirement as it applies to relevant subsystems
Use a requirements management database to manage requirements applicable to the system
Evaluate results of verification processes and validate results against system requirements
Integrate customer directed changes into the system and facilitate implementation of changes within a change management system
Coordinate and communicate with all stakeholders, including customers, all things related to requirements, implementation of requirements and verification, and resolution of problems and issues
Develop model architecture for model-based integration of requirements, design, analysis, and verification
Capture digital thread information to show top to bottom traceability of requirements/compliance information.
Skills & Qualifications:
A candidate qualified for this position should have the following demonstrated skills and experience:
Understanding of requirements and basic principles of verification approach
Experience and familiarity with model-based systems engineering tools
Experience with digital thread methodology
Experience with manufacturing and quality control databases and processes
Ability and skills to work multidisciplined engineering problems
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Experience Requirements:
A qualified candidate for this position should have some experience relevant to this position, including:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in Systems Engineering or in Integration Design or a related field in propulsion, preferably in a government contractor environment
Demonstrated experience in many aspects of aerospace design development processes including design, analysis, testing and integration
Exposure to and familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering tools (Cameo, Doors, etc…) and languages (SysML or UML) are required
Experience Preferred:
Assembling plans and detailed schedules to accomplish an engineering effort
Product testing or validation testing, preferably system level tests demonstrating interaction between subsystems or major elements
Participation in developing formal interfaces between parts of a system
Familiarity of requirement sets and system architectural approach necessary for spaceflight systems
Experience with Model Based Engineering and integration of descriptive and analytical models
Experience with digital thread methodology
Experience with manufacturing and quality control databases and processes
Prefer familiarity with aerospace launch or flight systems
A graduate certificate in Systems Engineering is highly preferred
Education/Certifications
BS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Physics or Engineering Management is required & 5 years of experience or 3 years with a MS
Consideration will be given to candidates with a BS or MS degree in other engineering disciplines with strong relevant experience
Position can be filled at a higher level, 9 years with a BS or 7 years with MS
This position reports to Magna, UT, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Corinne, UT, UT, USA.
