Job Summary:


The Research Services Principal Professional will provide technical and financial expertise to the Principal Investigators (PIs) and their designees and produce financial reports for the Research Operation Manager in the DBMI. This position will work closely with the Research Operation Manager, PIs, and key research staff to ensure the accuracy of grants and contracts. This position will interact and collaborate closely with the Office of Grants and Contracts on the billing and financial elements of these items.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops proposal budgets and routes documents in partnership with the Principal Investigators and Research Manager.
  • Transitions funded projects from pre- to post-award in an organized and collaborative process.
  • Prepares and processes expense reimbursements in accordance with rules and regulations.
  • Creates proposal in InfoEd system and submits for internal review and approval.
  • After reviewing Office of Grants and Contracts markup, edits proposals, and gathers final documents from Principal Investigator. Ensures adherence to internal and funding agency guidelines.
  • Submits final proposal to the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC) for submission to sponsor no later than internal OGC deadline.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC) and the setup team to ensure the award setup accurately reflects the terms and conditions of the award as well as anticipated spending; request appropriate rebudgeting from OGC and/or sponsor when required.
  • Analyzes and evaluates awarded proposals, and contracts, which may include subcontracts for compliance with funding agency, federal, state, and university requirements. Prepare documentation for OGC to draft subcontracts, monitor execution and set-up. Handle invoicing and compliance.

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of professional-level experience in pre-award and post-award capacity related to sponsored project administration and management.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience working in government, non-profit and/or academic administration.
  • 2+ years of experience with InfoEd Proposal Development System or similar grants submission software.
  • Experience working with University software applications including m-Fin, CU Data, CU Marketplace, A2E and HCM.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying policies from a variety of funding structures (federal, state, foundation, and institutional) and serving as a resource to others.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Experience with NIH grant submissions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present analytical assessments and reports, and to communicate professionally and effectively both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring administration of 70+ active research projects.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to use spreadsheets, word processing, email, and calendar software.
  • Experience using integrated accounting, purchasing, and payroll systems.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are of the utmost importance.
  • Time management, independent thought, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage priorities and be proactive in resolving issues.

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $60,000 - $80,000.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
