Successful candidates will have a master’s degree in education or relevant content area and a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated teaching and / or tutoring experience in higher education.

Position Summary:
The purpose of the Part Time Lead Tutor is to manage and lead a team of peer tutors who proactively deliver academic interventions under the guidance of the Learning Commons Director. The lead tutor will be the primary liaison with faculty in the following academic areas: Math, Business & Technical Foundations.

This position is 50% dedicated to administrative oversight of tutoring program and provision of workshops, appropriate intervention development, and faculty outreach and 50% direct student interaction.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as primary liaison between faculty and Learning Commons tutoring.
  • Work with faculty, colleagues in the Learning Commons and Bailey Library, and Head of Tutoring to develop academic interventions appropriate for each discipline with a focus on improved student success, improved student retention, and increased associate degree completion rates. Interventions may include tutoring, supplemental instruction, group study, academic workgroups, and other best practices.
  • Lead the development and delivery of academic workshops.
  • Act as a lead for special assignments assigned by Executive Director of the Learning Resources Division (LRD).
  • Collaborate with other Lead Tutors to develop a comprehensive and streamlined offering of academic interventions.
  • Provide academic leadership guidance to peer tutors.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, evaluation, and day-to-day academic preparedness of peer tutors.
  • Possess excellent content based knowledge and effectively work with students.
  • Promote use of appropriate technology applications.
  • Build and maintain key partnerships with internal stakeholders including, but not limited to: faculty, librarians, success coaches, and academic advisors.
  • Act as a representative of WCC Learning Commons promoting tutoring and campus resources to students at various college sponsored events and in classrooms to both faculty and students.
  • Attend WCC trainings and in-service as directed by supervisor.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training for tutors.
  • Provide feedback to Executive Director of the LRD on any student issue.
  • Be familiar and work with college’s course management system, Target X, and departmental technology platforms.
  • Oversee tracking and recording of Learning Commons tutoring quality assessments.
  • Prepare reports for supervisor and other campus stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with FERPA and student confidentiality.
  • Follow departmental practices and procedures.
  • Provide feedback to improve departmental practices and procedures.
  • Regular attendance on campus is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule:
This position will not exceed 20 hours per week with varying hours. This position will work only 48 weeks per year.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Master’s degree in education or relevant content area.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated teaching and / or tutoring experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated excellence in higher level Math as well as general computer and technology proficiency.
  • Willingness to learn and remain current on course requirement as determined by faculty.
  • Ability to work successfully with diverse students of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and work enthusiastically with minimal supervision.
  • Strong public service commitment, communication skills, and positive attitude.
