Purpose of Position
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?
This position will provide technical assistance using clerical procedures in support of the Artesia Public Health Office. This contributes to the agencies mission and goals by supporting the staff and community members of Eddy County.
How does it get done?
Providing clerical technical support to Public Health Office staff/Public Health Nurses by greeting clients and processing them through the Billing and Electronic Health Records system including scheduling for appointments to the Artesia Public Health Office. Answering the many phone calls that come through the Public Health Office utilizing a multi-line phone system. Verifying insurance status in the New Mexico Medicaid Portal and HealthXNet and submitting billing and taking payments for Family Planning services, making deposits and compiling monthly reports for programs. Providing Vital Records services such as Birth Certificates and assisting local Funeral homes with Death Certificates. Maintaining Protected Health Information which is confidential.
Who are the customers?
Public Health Nurses, clinicians that service Public Health Office clients, residents/clients of Eddy County, Funeral Homes and other community partners.
Ideal Candidate
1. Proficient using Computers
2. Experience working with Electronic Health Records
3. Strong Customer Service Skills
4. Experience utilizing a multi-line phone system
5. Experience using fax/copier and general office equipment
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalent and three (3) months experience in office administration and/or customer service. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Office setting, exposure to VDT, extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Must be able to lift 25lbs.
