POSITION SUMMARY:

CARC or the Community Assessment and Resource Center provides community-based intervention to help prevent youth from becoming even more involved with the criminal justice system. CARC is a San Francisco community based diversion program. Thru CARC youth are provided day of arrest community based interventions, advocacy and support through the legal process within the San Francisco juvenile justice system, short term case management, referrals and warm hand off to long term community based services in San Francisco and implementation of long-term plans and accountability through Restorative Justice practices to reduce and prevent recidivism. CARC’s operating hours are from 9am to 10pm Monday thru Friday.

This person in this position will work Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. (40 hours/ week).

POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that youth brought to CARC on the point of arrest receive caring and professional intake services. Intake of a youth includes but is not limited to conducting a thorough assessment of the youth, communicating with SFPD, fingerprinting youth when necessary and maintaining communication with the youths legal guardian during arrest. The night lead is key to ensure a smooth transition from day to night shifts. This role is responsible for communicating to case managers and the Director of CARC of any updates or occurrence during the night shift. The Night Lead must be able to work within a collaborative process, handle stressful situations in a calm and respectful manner and negotiate successfully with multidisciplinary systems. This position is also responsible for daily data entry of confidential client information; file maintenance of client information; printing various reports related to client information; and facilitating a weekly youth group Life Skills.

DUTIES:

  • Communicate daily with the Program Director regarding issues, problems, and events of the evening shift.

  • Assist in day to day training of evening staff and relief.

  • Responsible for ensuring the evening shift runs smoothly.

  • Provide the leadership necessary to create an atmosphere where all staff on duty work as a team.

  • Conduct assessments of clients to identify short/long term issues.

  • Develop initial care planning goals, legal agreements, advocacy along with arrest intervention conversations with youth.

  • Provide clear documentation as to the needs and strengths of the client and family.

  • Compare and analyze stats received at CARC and from SFPD.

  • Support case managers as needed with Sales Force data entry

  • Daily data entry of confidential client information into various program databases.

  • Group curriculum development and facilitation for 6 week rotating Life Skills group

  • Data entry support for program Project Ready, the agencies school based juvenile justice prevention program

  • Provide administrative support for the office

  • Attend meetings including but not limited to weekly Youth Review, All Hands meetings, Supervision, monthly data meeting, & monthly site staff meeting.

  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. Social Work or related field preferred OR three years combined of related experience and college (minimum one year working towards degree);

  • Working knowledge of the SF Juvenile Justice system

  • Knowledge of community based agencies serving adolescents in S.F.

  • Effective organizational and communication skills;

  • Excellent analytical skills; detail-oriented

  • High degree of computer literacy

  • Previous data entry experience, Access skills preferred

  • Ability to type 40 wpm.

  • Knowledge of system Collaboration preferred.

  • Valid CA DL, transportation and clean DMV record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Skills preferred (Spanish/Cantonese) - $1.50/hour bilingual stipend provided

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates out of the Huckleberry Gough St. offices with some visits to community & system partner sites. This role is in person at Huckleberry Gough St. This role includes driving and the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The Huckleberry Gough site is located in San Francisco and is accessible by public transportation.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and use hands to find, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to drive a vehicle.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently as well as be able to work cohesively in a culturally diverse team environment.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • TB clearance

  • Valid CA driver’s license, clear DMV record, and reliable transportation.

  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
