The MST-FIT Coach reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor and works collaboratively with residential treatment staff and all systems (i.e., Wraparound Milwaukee, DYFS, Division of Milwaukee Child Protective Services, MPS staff and administrators) while providing intensive family and community-based treatment to 13–17-year-old boys while they reside in Bakari, our DYFS contracted youth residential treatment center, and as they transition back into the community from Bakari.

The MST-FIT model promotes behavior change in the youth’s natural environment, using the strengths of the youth, family, and others involved in the youth’s support system. The MST model promotes personal responsibility, education, work ethic, and community responsibility. To properly implement the goals of the program, the MST-FIT Coach will embrace and model these core values while supporting the youth in the following way:

  • Engage the primary caregiver and the youth’s support system in active change-oriented treatment by overcoming barriers to engagement.
  • Provide individual and family clinical treatment models aligned with the MST principles and practices.
  • Implement a needs conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, outcome review, and strategy revision procedure using the MST analytical process.
  • Provide care coordination as needed to access additional services to support the youth and caregiver (i.e., mental health, housing, prevention services, etc.)
  • Conduct MST-FIT assessment including a review of internal information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying strengths and areas of need, and developing an analysis of the fit or problem behaviors within the ecological context.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts and promote peer and supervisory review and feedback that demonstrates compliance with the 9 MST principles, MST analytical process, DBT concepts, and Motivational Interviewing strategies.
  • Develop and submit weekly updates of each family being served to the program supervisor.
  • Be available 24/7 on call for youth and caregivers

Because the position requires local travel within the community to agencies and residences, additional qualifications for this position include a valid driver's license, automobile, and automobile insurance. All employees must meet pre-employment requirements including reference checks, criminal and caregiver background checks, drug screen, and driver’s license check to safeguard the youth we serve.

While not required, the following licensures will enhance success in the position:
Advanced Practice Social Worker (APSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor-In Training (LPC-IT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

A working knowledge and the ability to use computer applications are also preferred and extremely helpful in succeeding in the position due to the reporting and case note requirements, including documenting all case notes in SecureManage.

Job Qualifications:

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a social or behavioral science field required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience serving youth and families
  • License as an Advanced Practice Social Worker (APSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor-In Training (LPC-IT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred, but not required.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications preferred (Windows and Microsoft Word).
  • Ability to display cultural competence by responding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values the worth of each person.
  • Experience with DBT, CBT, MST and/or MST-FIT preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of Trauma Informed Care and strength-based service delivery systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple complex tasks, strong professional communication and team work.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile, and auto insurance sufficient to meet agency requirements.
  • Meet all the employee requirements including references, criminal and caregiver background checks, drug screen, and driver’s license check.
