Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse
Department: Day Surgery
Reports To: Day Surgery Manager
Hours: Monday-Friday Full Time (Hours will Vary, standard department hours 7:00am – 5:00pm)

Full Job Description:
Job Summary Under the direction of a physician and utilizing the nursing process provides nursing care at a professional level. Performs a variety of nursing procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Demonstrates clinical competency, nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills. Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess patients throughout the preoperative/postoperative period establishing appropriate documentation on nursing record.
- Certification Required to: Start IVs
- Administer only oral medications IV antibiotics ordered by the physician, instituting appropriate patient monitoring techniques.
- Provide post anesthesia/analgesia care delegated by an RN to stable awake patients utilizing appropriate PACU standards.
- Provide patient teaching pre/postoperatively.
- Provide emotional support as appropriate to Day Surgery patients and family.
- Maintain adequate records as directed.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness.
- Comply with all departmental policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- Must be licensed by the state of Oregon to practice nursing.
- BLS Certification upon hire.
- ACLS Certification within three months of hire date.
- PALS Certification within four months of hire date.
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional accountability and growth (work attendance, performance appraisals, attendance at educational offerings and flexibility of hours).
- Ability to work in an area that is in a constant state of change, filled with high emotions and labile personalities, and rapid pace.
- Self-directed and highly motivated
