Job Title: Horticulture Maintenance II
Location: Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens/Sinnissippi Rec Path
Starting Wage: $16.00
Length of Season: March-November

Summary of Duties: Include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs general duties relating to the upkeep of the buildings, grounds, and water features
• Weeds, waters, and installs bedding plants, bulbs and trees
• Performs generalized janitorial work
• Trims, mows, and rakes lawns
• Mulches flower and landscaping beds
• Operates power tools and power equipment
• Drives park district vehicles (trucks, utility cart, etc.)
• Maintains a working knowledge of all general and departmental – specific safety rules
• Inspects work areas for compliance with safe work practices and rules
• Enforces safety rules and improve employee knowledge of the same by confronting and correcting unsafe behavior and conditions
• Attends all required safety trainings
• Pays strict attention to housekeeping of work area(s)
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Must be a minimum of 18 years old
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Days and hours vary, general hours will be 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required
• Excellent customer service skills and customer oriented.
• Good communication skills including expressive, written, and receptive.
• Ability to follow direction from Nicholas Conservatory Horticulture Supervisors, Coordinators, and Seasonal Supervisors demonstrating flexibility as a team player.
• Valid Driver's license
• CPR and First Aid Certification (can be obtained through the Rockford Park District within one year of hire)

• Heavy work:
• Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally
• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently
• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Must be able to perform physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Far, near, and mid-range vision
• This position includes indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse work with regular exposure to weather related elements (heat, sun, cold, wind, humidity, rain, etc.)
• Expect potential exposure to the following: dirt, noise, temperature and weather extremes, job related hazardous chemicals.
