Overview

This position is part of the Production Engineering Department and provides first line level day to day engineering support for the Glass Department and Door Assembly areas (swing, slide, and VM01 types) as well as support for the assembly lines. This includes both design and production related responsibilities and requires cross functional collaboration with manufacturing, purchasing, quality, service, suppliers, and management.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver quick, effective, first level engineering support to the Glass Department to achieve safety, quality, and production goals.
  • Perform time studies and identify standard work, turning data into improved performance.
  • Look for daily line improvements, including justification for process changes and capital equipment investments based on lean manufacturing principles.
  • Study product defects and field complaints to determine root cause and implement solutions.
  • Create and update factory production area layouts using 2D CAD software, analyze material flow, machine capacity and utilization to improve manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Facilitate installation of new equipment, including site prep work and layout planning.
  • Work with line managers to meet or exceed safety, quality and production metrics.
  • Troubleshoot assembly line issues while working closely with line leaders.
  • Document and implement engineering changes.
  • Create work instructions, standard work and sequence of events.
  • Create and update production area layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Work independently and in a team environment to complete projects.
  • Participate in cross functional teams.
  • Investigate and implement projects to continuously improve the manufacturing processes.
  • Embody a passion and energy to perform in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Full time student, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering management or similar field required.
  • A student currently in their junior or senior year is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to be assertive and diplomatic when interacting with co-workers and factory team members.
  • Positive attitude, upbeat, detail oriented, team player and supportive of the direction and policies of the company.
  • Ability to think ahead, set daily and weekly goals and create action plans to achieve results.
  • Ability to multi-task and follow up on all open issues in a fast-paced environment.
The duration of this co-op is January to August, 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
