Overview:
The General Construction Technician position will be located at the Albion, IL facility. This position works in and around petroleum products and crude oil facilities executing various construction and maintenance activities. 75% travel, call-outs, and overtime will be required on an as-needed basis. Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL) operates more than 10,000 miles of underground pipeline in 26 states.
The General Construction Technician position will be located at the Albion, IL facility. This position works in and around petroleum products and crude oil facilities executing various construction and maintenance activities. 75% travel, call-outs, and overtime will be required on an as-needed basis. Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL) operates more than 10,000 miles of underground pipeline in 26 states.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Mobilizing and demobilizing equipment to jobsites. This includes driving a tractor trailer and lowboy trailer, 1 ton truck with trailer, and loading and unloading equipment from the trailers to the jobsite. Utilize proper traffic control provisions to ensure safety of all crew members when loading/unloading on public roadways.
- Assisting tradespeople in their duties. Assisting Heavy Equipment Operators by spotting, probing underground obstructions, pipeline supporting and shoveling to expose/clean off the pipeline being excavated. Assisting Pipeline Welders by preparing pipeline repair components, setup/tear down of welding equipment on the jobsite and fire watching.
- Sandblasting and coating pipelines. Utilizing proper PPE to sandblast pipelines and apply protective coatings per company standards and specifications.
- Bolting and torquing pipeline flanges and components. Following company specifications to properly bolt and torque pipeline flanges
- Preparing for projects and inventorying tooling/materials. Assisting other crew members to equip each job with the proper materials and tooling.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
- Perform general maintenance on a variety of equipment.
- Provide support for damage prevention and right of way relations.
- Perform emergency break and leak activities.
- Provide field support to various other MPL processes and departments.
- Assure accordance with all regulations in support of DOT, Environmental, Safety and Regulatory compliance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic computer skills
- Have a valid regular (non-commercial) driver’s license
- Meet Federal and State Requirements to obtain a CDL and drive a commercial motor vehicle across state lines (interstate)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Class A CDL
- Previous experience operating a truck and trailer
