The solutions/integration engineering team is responsible for building our core client integrations and third party APIs - POS systems, Payments, Loyalty, SKU data and more - which customers experience before, during, and after visiting a store that uses the Standard system. As an Engineering Manager for Solutions/Integration, you will be leading the team building our integrations and third party APIs. You'll be working closely with the core-services engineering team, sales engineering, client teams, account management teams and product teams to bring our autonomous checkout systems to life, and building elegant shopping experiences that shape the future of retail.
This is a FULL-TIME role and can be based in San Francisco or remotely anywhere within the (US time zones/world/west coast/etc.) on an ongoing basis.
What you'll do here:
Build and lead a team of globally-distributed, talented engineers who like to ship code and tackle hard engineering problems
Manage relationships (along with our Client and Product teams) with technical peers at both client organizations and third-party technology providers
Guide (with other senior leaders) the architecture of integrations and APIs provided to partners by Standard as well as maintain existing integrations as requirements change in time
Work with our Client and Account Management teams to ensure feasibility, requirements and timelines
Work with our core-services and catalog engineering teams to ensure plug ins and compatibility with the rest of the system
Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers, and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals
Establish and maintain team norms that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members.
Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization
Lead end to end execution of projects and enable teams to ship application releases in a timely manner, keeping your team focused on well-defined sprint priorities
Represent technical requirements to be met by all parties to an integration and lead technical discussions regarding tradeoffs, flexibility and customization required to meet these requirements
Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly
Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team's code, architecture, and processes
Work closely with the Standard recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds
Own your team's deliverables and ensure we continue to ship scalable, highly-available products that delight our shoppers and retailers
Who you are:
Experience as a hands-on software engineer and strength in computer science fundamentals to understand the engineering work that is going on in your team
You have 4+ years of experience developing software as an individual contributor engineer, ideally building and maintaining backend services, client facing APIs, and working on integrations
You have 3+ years of experience of managing highly diverse remote team across various technologies in a fast paced environment
You have outstanding technical skills in solutions engineering and integrations, as well as API design
You have built and maintained third party APIs, SDKs, etc
Strong architecture design experience/skills for APIs and integrations
A good understanding of APIs, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring/debugging/logging tools, technical support
Experience leading complex projects that span across engineering teams
Experience leading or managing a integration or solutions engineering team
Great management and team development skills: ability to set roadmap and goals for a team and every one of its members, delegate intelligently, mentor engineers, deliver frequent and transparent feedback, help team members grow in their careers and deliver results
