Our Materials and Structural Analysis business helps customers drive brand-new research and discoveries by delivering innovative microscopy, spectroscopy and microanalysis solutions, such as world-class scanning and transmission electron microscopes, DualBeam™ FIB-SEMs, and spectrometers, combined with sophisticated software suites. We span across the business areas of spectroscopy, visualization software, semiconductor, life sciences, and material sciences, as well as global support functions, like commercial sales, service, operations, research and development, sophisticated technologies and marketing. This position will be based out of our Hillsboro, Oregon site.

How you will make an impact

The Engineering Data Management group performs the prioritization, execution and implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECO) within the Operations Organization at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our group is also responsible for maintaining the standards and processes for creating and releasing technical product documentation for our Engineering groups in R&D, Operations and Service. The primary focus of the Validation Engineer (Change Owner) is to create and review new documentation while follow archiving and change control process rules for all Thermo Fisher Scientific engineering data. The position collaborates closely with the Engineering department, Product Lifecycle Manager (PLM), R&D, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, and Global Service groups within MSD.

Specific responsibilities associated with this position include:

  • Owning the Technical Product Documentation (TPD) standards and release processes to ensure proper rules and processes are followed.
  • Generating TPD for Operational Engineering Changes via Siemens NX, SolidWorks and Microsoft office tools (Work, PDF, Excel, etc.)
  • Updating and handling Bills of Material in our Product Documentation System (Siemens Teamcenter).
  • Perform Teamcenter Training for all new hires, as requested.
  • Support ECO planning, execution and implementation for multiple product lines in Oregon, California, Texas and Massachusetts.
  • Provides impact analysis for ECOs
  • Creates implementation plans for assigned ECO's and tracks them to conclusion.
  • Supports MSD Global Operations & Service with product partner concerns and/or ECO implementation as necessary.
  • Will participate on Change Review Boards to ensure plans have a positive value and minimum disruption to factories and global service
  • Ensure Key Performance Indicators and Cycle time targets are being met within their scope of activity.
  • Facilitates and leads multi-functional improvement and other Operations projects from inception to completion.
  • Acts as an advisor and role model to peers and project resources to resolve user documentation problems.
  • Develops close relationships with Manufacturing, Logistics, Sourcing, NPI/SPR Engineering, GTS, PLM, Quality and R&D to adequately resolve documentation issues.
  • Adhere to work safety, fire safety, hygiene of work and other regulatory standards. Clean and maintain work area and consigned tools
  • Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience

  • Associates degree in a technical field, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
  • Typically requires 2+ year of experience with Document Control tools.
  • 2+ years CAD experience required (Teamcenter NX and/or SolidWorks is a strong advantage)
  • Ability to create and coordinate Engineering Change implementation scenarios is an advantage.
  • Proven ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of multi-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites without damaging relationships.
  • Must demonstrate ability to create user documentation and reports using common Microsoft Office and Acrobat applications.
  • Experience working in a high-tech industry and/or a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as the need arises (up to 25% of working time)
  • Fluent in English and local language (verbal and in writing)
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
