PROVAIL has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Director of Development to manage and expand the successful fundraising program for one of the state’s largest nonprofits supporting children and adults with disabilities. This position reports to the President and CEO and will participate as a member of the executive team. You will lead a 3-person development team with staff focused on institutional giving, annual giving, communications and volunteer coordination. The Development team also utilizes contract support services for event management and marketing/public relations.

PROVAIL is celebrating its 80th anniversary having been founded in 1942 by parents of children with cerebral palsy. They created some of the first community services for individuals with cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities in the area. Our mission is supporting people with disabilities to fulfill their life choices. We help people decide how they want to live their life in the community and then provide the support services they need to act on those choices. We are a lifelong resource to individuals with disabilities and their families. Our services include:
- Community-based residential services for adults with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury.
- Competitive supported employment helping adults and high school students with disabilities find jobs in the community.
- Clinical services including occupational/speech therapy and innovative assistive technology solutions for communication and mobility challenges.
We employ approximately 430 staff and have a budget of about $24 million. Our budget consists primarily of public funding with fundraising revenue representing less than 5% of our revenue. We are actively working to increase our philanthropic support in order to help increase our revenue diversity and our sustainability.
We have many years of fundraising experience and a strong core group of individual, corporate and foundation donors. We typically raise $600,000-$700,000 per year from events, direct mail, online donations, and grants. Our program has evolved in recent years with efforts to reduce emphasis on revenue from special events to to put more attention into donor relationship building and stewardship, but remain heavily focused on event-based revenue. Our goal is to capitalize on our excellent program outcomes, strong community relationships, and very positive reputation to increase funding revenue. This will allow us to continue to grow and develop a sustainable organization - one that is able to transform lives by expanding our services and investing in the diversity and equity of our staff.

- Competitive pay, $95k-$115k annually, exempt level position

What you’ll do:
- Lead and manage fundraising team, develop and drive fundraising strategy and also actively manage and grow major gifts programs.
- Oversee and manage external contract consultants providing support for event logistics, communications and PR as well as prospect research.
- Work closely with the Board’s Development Committee and the CEO on development of a fundraising plan that facilitates board member engagement.
- Actively engage in fundraising efforts while seeking to foster engagement and continued growth.
- Lead Development team in stewardship work as well as engage in individual donor cultivation.
- Engage with fundraising consultants to complete a full assessment of the development program. Review return on investment by fundraising activity and audit internal systems, fundraising structure and culture.
- Responsible for implementation of recommendations needed on adjustment to the structure of the Development team to better organize work and divide labor.
What you’ll bring:
- Degree in business, marketing, communication, or related field preferred.
- Five years experience in non-profit fundraising.
- Five years of supervisory experience.
- Skilled team leader and shrewd development strategist with a track record of success with development and fostering of a fundraising plan.
- Broad development background with experience in annual giving, instructional giving, and communications.
- Experienced team leader who can guide staff through changes in strategy, set expectations for growth and support staff through a servant leadership approach.
- Outstanding communication and collaboration skills to build a positive culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
- Ability to plan independently, develop budgets, and apply both creative and strategic thinking to complex problems.
- Understanding of metrics and data most important to evaluate fundraising results and inform decision making.
