Intro/Program Description: Goddard Riverside Community Center is a well-established community-based agency with an annual operating budget of approximately $65 million. Goddard Riverside is one of New York City’s leading human service organizations meeting the basic needs of children, youth and families, homeless people, and older adults across Manhattan and New York City. The Development and Communications team is responsible for raising funding from individuals, corporations and foundations as well as communicating with all those constituencies.
Purpose of Position: The Development and Communications Associate will be responsible for serving as a liaison with Goddard’s different programs around a range of key areas including web, social media, volunteers, community events, and content. They will support all members of the Development and Communications team and work on a wide range of projects including managing volunteers, administrative tasks to content management on web and social media. This is a great opportunity to work in a thriving Development department and gain experience in a range of critical areas of fundraising and communications.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and holidays.
Salary: $43,751 - $54,689
Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption.
1.) Administrative
a. Order supplies and maintain departmental inventory of supplies, promotional materials etc…
b. Maintain files; create forms; prepare reports and other documents; data entry.
c. Assist with managing fiscal documentation and other recording and tracking procedures; track expenses in Intacct, our accounting software.
d. Maintain listings in Charity Navigator, Candid and other charity registration platforms.
e. Help maintain our donor database DonorPerfect by noting donor interactions and communications.
2.) Volunteer Management
a. Draft communications about volunteer opportunities and respond to volunteer inquiries; maintain current listings of volunteer opportunities, and direct volunteers accordingly.
b. Help coordinate programmatic community events such as our annual carnival, holiday meals and backpack giveaways; ensure volunteer staffing and management for these events.
c. Serve as liaison with individual programs to understand and post volunteer opportunities, provide management of volunteers and recruit them for different needs.
d. Gather volunteer participation information and ensure it is tracked in our donor database DonorPerfect.
e. Support volunteer-led events including our Holiday Meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
3.) Communications
a. Support the Director of Public Relations in maintaining our websites and social media; develop and manage content as directed.
b. Assist with photography, videography and content creation for online communication channels including web, social and email.
c. Assist in tracking and analyzing where donations and donors come from.
d. Liaise with programs and help attend events to capture content.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Strong commitment to the mission of Goddard Riverside
- Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and at least 1-2 years equivalent experience with not-for-profit or in communications
- Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Possess office and administrative skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Computer Skills Needed:
- Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with accounting software such as Intacct, donor software such as DonorPerfect and design software such as Photoshop/Canva are all a plus; willingness to learn required.
Physical Requirements
- Moderate computer work
- Occasional lifting of up to 30lbs
Work Environment
- Primarily the Development office, occasional working from home possible, also regular travel to other Goddard Riverside sites and programs across New York City (primarily Upper Manhattan)
