JOB SUMMARY: The Deputy Director provides leadership and guidance to all assigned programs and coordinates all allied administrative functions in support of the goals and objectives of the Enterprises, Employment and Education department. The position provides support and supervision to managers, staff, and volunteers to ensure operational success, and that all program activities operate consistently within the mission, vision, and values of the Agency.
Supervisory Responsibility: Provides administrative and functional supervision of 15 FTEs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the program directors/managers within the department in developing plans and goals for the operations of their programs.
- Provide support and supervision to directors/managers, staff, and volunteers in achieving strategic goals, fulfilling contract and billing requirements, and providing high quality, responsive services.
- Support individual program directors/managers with the maintenance and expansion of services provided in their specific areas including the funding resources to sustain that service.
- Ensure fiscal accountability in department programs by reviewing financial statements, supporting the development of funding plans that identify private/public funding to achieve program goals, and supporting grant/contract development to fully fund program initiatives.
- Conduct regular and ongoing evaluation of program needs; develop and implement plans to close identified gaps in service (e.g. professional development and training of staff, budgetary concerns, licensing requirements, etc.).
- Provide frequent reports to the department executive director on program accomplishments, challenges, budgetary analysis, quality enhancement initiatives, and personal outcomes accomplishments.
- Support the program and administrative efforts to recruit and nurture a qualified, stable, skilled, diverse, competent, and highly valued workforce.
- Conduct annual performance evaluation of managers and other direct reports.
- Assist with the organization-wide leadership in achieving and maintaining accreditation.
- Maintain quality program practices, enable staff participation in quality improvement, (CQI), and update program policies, procedures, and manual as needed.
- Provide program management and leadership in the absence of department executive director.
- Support the programs and mission of the Department through detailed knowledge of administrative services, contract services, and management of expenditures for the entire Department.
- Represent the department and department executive director at meetings, events, and programs as required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in social services, business management or related field; graduate education preferred.
- 8 years of progressively responsible management experience.
- 5 years of experience in managing the delivery of social services, community outreach, and volunteer management, or equivalent experience in the private or government sector.
- 7 years of experience as a director or executive managing cross-functional teams.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to think strategically, analyze data and information, develop innovative solutions, and present recommendations.
- Ability to engage in and monitor the decision-making process for complex organizational issues.
- Skills in management planning, organizing, leadership, and supervision.
