This Role at UP Education Network
The Dean of Student Supports is a full-time member of the school staff. Dean level positions are also members of the Leadership Team. This means they attend all LT meetings throughout the year and take on additional responsibilities around professional development, coaching, staff communication, project management, and execution of school priorities. All full time staff members have regular duties in the course of the day that may include lunch duty, arrival and dismissal duty, recess duty and or hallway coverage.

Specifics of the Role
- Lead (manage and coach) the Mental Health Team such that 1:1 counseling, MTSS interventions (skills groups, CICO, etc.), IEP minutes, and general mental health programs and supports are executed at the highest quality
- Lead (manage and coach) the Related Service Providers such that OT and Speech services are executed at the highest quality, and professional learning opportunities are presented for those roles
- Work closely with the Principal, Director of Operations, Dean of Students and leadership team to swiftly increase Social Emotional Learning skills in students at UAH using research-based curriculum and data analysis.
- Work closely with the Principal and Dean of Students to collaborate on decision making around discipline especially for SWDs and students on MTSS for SEL
- Use data to drive SEL programming and Tier I services weekly, creating or adapting lessons for each grade level that meet the needs of the grade. Conduct observations of SEL instruction and provide coaching and feedback to teachers. Share data trends widely with LT, and the broader staff, to inform planning and execution of the schoolwide priorities.
- Improve the consistency and efficacy of family engagement related to mental health, SEL, and behavioral health by regularly analyzing family communication data as it relates to dean referrals, mental health, and SEL, and coaching/supporting staff in this. This includes but is not limited to leading family mediations or restorations, supporting teachers in their communication quality or frequency, and ensuring families are connected to the mental health or behavioral health resources they need.
- Engage in regular analysis of and action planning based on school climate and culture data in partnership with the Dean of Students, Principal, and LT
Qualifications
- A strong belief in UP Education Network’s mission, vision, and core values: Students, Community, Humility, Resilience, and Humor
- Consistent track record (at least two years) of success creating achievement-focused school climate and managing teams
- Bachelor’s degree is required, A master’s degree in social work, school counseling, or psychology is preferred.
- Current authorization to work in the United States – A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment

UP Academy follows the salary scales and salary placement policies of each UP Academy’s host school district or state turnaround plan; please see the relevant union’s collective bargaining agreement for additional details.
