Cost Accountant duties and responsibilities

Cost Accountants collaborate with other accountants and financial staff in the company to provide financial and accounting support to executives and department heads who establish goals and budgets for the organization. Their duties include:

Responsibilities

• Collect cost information and maintain an expenses database
• Construct data accumulation systems
• Plan and record variable costs (e.g. purchases of raw material and operations costs)
• Review average costs for accuracy
• Prepare budgeting reports the production department
• Analyze and report profit margins and COGs
• Assisting in month-end and year-end closing
• Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions

Requirements and skills

• 5+ years experience as a Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, Accountant or similar role
• Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
• In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Experience with accounting software, like Microsoft Dynamics
• Computer literacy, strong MS Excel in particular (familiarity with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables)
• Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
• Strong time management skills
• Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information
• BSc degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant study

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
