Job Description


AECOM is seeking highly motivated and dependable Control Room Operators to staff a traffic operations control room in Ankeny, Iowa on a part time, 24 hour per week basis. Applicants will need to be professional, reliable, self-motivated, and able to follow strict standard operating procedures. The qualified applicant will need to clearly demonstrate their knowledge of Iowa’s Interstate and arterial road network and a basic proficiency with computer and communication systems. Applicants will also need to confirm their willingness and ability to work in a 24/7/365 operating environment, which may include weekend, night, and holiday shifts. Morning Shift 5am-1:30pm on Saturday and Sundays and from 5am-9am on Mondays and Tuesdays. Pay $22hr

Job Summary
Control Room Operators execute their responsibilities from a Traffic Management Center (TMC), located in Ankeny, Iowa. The environment is a technological hub for traffic operations, which uses a variety of different technologies for the purpose of enhancing safety and mobility.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Managing and logging traffic incidents in an advanced transportation management system software
  • Coordinating and dispatching incident response crews to incidents in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
  • Detecting, confirming, and tracking equipment failures affecting control room operations (e.g., central system, computers, CCTV cameras, digital message signs, etc.)

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and successfully participate in the program’s mandatory random drug screening process
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time monitoring Intelligent Transportation Systems such CCTV camera displays, meters, law enforcement radio broadcasts, answering/responding to calls and communicating to other staff or partner agencies.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other monitoring equipment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree
  • Knowledge of two-way communication systems; radio and telecommunications experience
  • Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial roads
  • Knowledge of incident management response techniques and municipality and area traffic management organizations
  • Emergency Operations Center knowledge and/or experience
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong, accurate data entry skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment under stressful conditions
  • Must be able to work in a Control Room work environment
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced environment requiring high level of multi-tasking
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple, diverse and simultaneous inputs
  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under intense pressure
  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and on-call duties at a 24/7/365 operation center; Schedules are dictated by need of operation and stated in advance. Schedules will vary.
  • Basic skill proficiency in the use of Windows based applications including Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, and Excel
