Job Summary
The Community Food Education (CFE) Program Manager is responsible for the management, oversight, and development of programs within Solid Ground’s Community Food Education Programs. The CFE Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining food education and programming and is the agency’s point person to funders, collaborations, and coalitions and collaborates with the Department Director with strategic growth and initiative planning within CFE. The Manager will support the overall goal of CFE to provide Food Education to adults, families, and children, build partnerships with community stakeholders to build healthier families and other microsystems that support and strengthen neighborhoods. The CFE Manager also oversees the development and evaluation of the nutrition curriculum which includes garden-based, classroom-based and community-based education. This position supervises staff, volunteers, interns, and coordinates operations, prepares and adheres to budgets, oversees contract management and program evaluation, and ensures accurate and timely reporting to funders. This position will also provide support to the Department Director and Resource Development in developing and writing grants and funding applications.
Essential Responsibilities, Duties & Tasks
Program Development: Develop program policies and procedures to ensure quality service and contractual compliance. Work with Department Director to develop assessment processes that demonstrate impact and effectively meet the needs of the community. Establish short- and long-term program goals to achieve positive outcomes aligned with local efforts to end poverty and eliminate food injustice. Provide leadership, oversight, and support to facilitate day-to-day operations, and delivery of services to promote and facilitate healthy communities. Identify and develop program sites and oversee classroom-based, community-based and garden-based nutrition classes and events for youth, adults, and seniors, such as family nights, after-school programs, and other activities within Solid Ground and our partnering community agencies. Adapt program curricula to meet the diverse needs in the community teaching classes as needed. Oversee Solid Ground operations at Marra Farms. Observe and evaluate classes to ensure effective teaching methods. Oversee the policy, systems and environmental change programming in gardens, schools and within other Solid Ground programs.
Management: Hire, train supervise, and evaluate Community Food Education staff, including education coordinators, nutrition educators, Farm staff, and volunteers in the programs. Provide leadership, oversight, and support to facilitate day-to-day operations and delivery of services within the program. Provide staff support through regular staff meetings, and professional and career opportunities to enhance staff skills. Enforce program and agency policies and procedures, provide guidance to support and ensure professional development opportunities for staff, , interns, and volunteers.
Budget: Prepare annual program budgets and negotiate multiple fund source contracts. Revise budgets as needed in to reflect changes throughout the year. Monitor budgets and financials monthly to ensure expenses are within budgetary guidelines and in alignment with allowable expenses which vary by contract. Prepare reports as required and analyze data collected in order to ensure contract compliance with both public and private funders. Work closely with the Finance department to ensure accurate invoicing and budget reconciliation; ensure data integrity through regular reviews. In collaboration with Department Director and Resource Development, support grant application and Requests for Proposals. Cultivate relationships of adult volunteer groups at Marra Farm and other opportunities in coordination with Resource Development.
Collaboration: Initiate, foster and maintain relationships with community partner agencies such as schools, healthcare clinics, community centers and a variety of other organizations and non-profits to ensure collaboration and coordination of services. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other food and nutrition providers and other Solid Ground programs to ensure effective coordination of services and oversee activities to raise program visibility as appropriate.
Community Involvement: Represent Solid Ground and provide leadership and expertise on regional committees and planning groups to strengthen services. Conduct outreach with community agencies and coordinate services with outside providers as necessary. Work with community partners to ensure accomplishment of program goals and objectives. Advocate with local officials, legislators, and community groups to raise awareness of food insecurity, the impact of racism and oppression on food resources and access to culturally relevant foods, and the importance of sustainable funding for nutrition education.
Teamwork: Identify and communicate program issues to Department Director and Agency management. Integrate agency directives, policies and procedures within program services as needed. Participate in program, department and agency meetings and relevant training as required.
