Title: Welder

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

IMMEDIATE OPENING!!! GREAT PAY AND BENEFITS!!!! FULLTIME!! Responsible to work from shop drawings and AWS, CWB weld procedures to perform welding on code and non-code weldments on a variety of metals and alloys. Plan, layout, select weld materials, and perform other tasks involving the use of welding and other shop equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Weld code and non-code material for at least one process (FCAW, TIG, SAW, SMAW)
  • Work from specifications, drawings, prints and welding symbols
  • Set up weldments for code and non-code material
  • Use hand-operated power tools including grinders, bevellers, and buffers
  • Maintain good general housekeeping duties
  • Perform small jobs for maintenance department

Technical Skills:

  • Must possess basic knowledge of the ASME Boiler Code, AWS weld requirements, various welding and assembly techniques and the ability to read and interpret complex production drawings/blue prints and be proficient and accountable for conformance to them.
  • Ability to transfer between work centers to manufacture varying products as required
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings
  • Flame cut various parts and materials with manual and automated cutting equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • Have the ability to:
  • Work in a heavy manufacturing environment requiring awkward stances and positions for periods of time throughout an 8 to 10 hour day
  • Climb ladders and scaffolding 10 to 25 feet above ground level
  • Lift product, equipment, and tools up to 50 pounds
  • Push or pull product up to 200 pounds on an infrequent basis (welding machines on wheels)
  • Enter confined spaces in drums 15 to 30 feet long and 4 to 6 feet in diameter through manways located at either end of the drum that are as small as 12” x 16”

Education: High school graduate or GED; Technical Welder Degree Preferred. Equivalent experience considered at discretion of management.

Experience:

  • Welding experience including Code Work preferred
  • The skill level to pass an ASME 6G pipe test is considered as a level of ability required for this position (with the exception of Sub-Arc)

Special Dimensions: Exposed to occupational and environmental risks part of a normal workday

General Hazards:

  • Compressed gases can be potential hazards and workers must safely handle containers as instructed
  • Confined space entry procedures must be followed whenever entries are necessary
  • Proper operation of forklifts; use of seat belts when driving as rollover protection to move product between 5,000 to 25,000 pounds
  • Proper use of scaffolding and ladders to reduce fall hazards
  • Proper procedures must be followed for crane operation to lift product between 50,000 to 200,000 pounds
  • Proper lifting techniques must be utilized to lift product; additional assistance required when lifting product in excess of 50 pounds

Personal Protective Equipment required:

  • Hearing Protection for level of noise
  • Safety shoes for protection from falling loads and equipment
  • Safety glasses and welding masks for eye and face protection when welding and cutting to prevent flash burns and radiation exposures
  • Gloves to protect skin against burns and hot metal, ceramic fibers in insulation products, spattering slag, or from handling hot tools or electrodes

Respirators as required when ventilation is not adequate to remove welding

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
