The Assistant Director supervises a staff consisting of lead teachers, childcare associates, aides, and volunteers. The Assistant Director trains staff and implements a developmentally appropriate program for the children served. The Assistant Director interacts with the children, their parents or guardians, their peers within the agency, and external agency personnel. The Assistant Director, to extent feasible, ensures full utilizations of the Center serving up to the maximum capacity of the center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Designs and implements an appropriate and safe environment for the children.
  • Plan and adopt programming that conforms to the core competencies of early childhood education and may implement daily program activities.
  • Directs staff and volunteer workers as to their duties, responsibilities, and time schedules.
  • Pursues strategies for full utilization of the Centers resources.
  • Utilizes computer software to prepare various records, time sheets, fiscal reports, and other data essential to operation of the center.
  • Assists and supports the children regarding their physical, emotional, social, aesthetic, and cognitive development and well-being.
  • Interacts with parents/guardians in resolving problems and makes good faith effort to meet any particular need that may arise. Strives for on-going, positive parental involvement.
  • Plans and conducts effective staff meetings, emphasizing two-way communication.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Provides children with a predictable daily routine that allows choices for the children to work both independently and in small groups.
  • Dialogues with the children on an appropriate level and assists school-aged children with their homework.
  • Trains staff in daily child observations and porfolios.
  • Complies with the Privacy Policies of Zion Child Development Centers, Inc
  • Protects the confidentiality of private employee and customer information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be at least 21 years of age and have a minimum of one year of relevant work experience and one of the following additional qualifications:
  • A CDA credential and 300 hours of relevant work experience working with young children.
  • 12 college credits in an early care and education field and 300 hours of relevant work experience working with young children.
  • A total of 2 years of relevant work experience;
  • A registered Apprenticeship Certificate for Childhood Development Specialist (ACDS).
  • 28 college credits, with at least nine credit hours in early childhood development.
  • Two (2) Reference Information Forms on file with the licensing agency, attesting to the employee’s character and relevant abilities.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Demonstrated ability to help children and families through transitions.
  • Exhibited enthusiasm and energy towards the children, staff, and preschool.
  • Possess a demonstrated record of attending continuing education seminars/workshops.
  • Exhibit knowledge of state standards in program, staff, and facility.
  • Possess a good understanding of fire, sanitation, and other agency requirements and comply with inspector recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement curriculum.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to follow directions well.
  • Computer skills.
  • Leadership training (minimum of 12 college credits or 50 contact of approved leadership training)
  • Philosophy compatible with the ZCDC concept.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES:

Demonstrates an ability to lead people.

Demonstrates an understanding of the various regulatory guidelines (ethical, confidentiality, legal requirements, etc).

Demonstrates ability to utilize various computer software systems, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and ProCare.

Illustrates effective use of time management and organization skills to perform multiple tasks. Demonstrates exceptional people skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
