The Chemist will report into the QC Manager and is responsible for performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Introduction of new analysis into the laboratory.
  • Introduction and/or development of new procedures and making procedural recommendations designed to improve precision and accuracy.
  • Support manufacturing and R&D.
  • Train laboratory staff on products, procedures, and process changes and documenting completed training.
  • Document, interpret, and communicate analytical results to colleagues and customers.
  • Be a part of the integration of new or existing instrumentation into the laboratory.
  • Ensure that operational capabilities are fully understood and utilization of instruments is maximized by laboratory staff.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and train laboratory staff on all instrumentation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to the laboratory instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain a fundamental understanding of company products.
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of SAP, share the knowledge, and also utilize SAP skills to improve efficiency.
  • Oversee the management of standards that are used in the laboratory.
  • Oversee the management of laboratory waste.
  • Oversee the laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Assist in the integration of new products into the laboratory.
  • Perform equipment calibrations or ensure that calibrations are performed as scheduled, and that all supportive documentation is in place and accurate.
  • Seek out and propose process improvements through the application of new processes, methodologies, and/or equipment that would have a positive impact on the laboratory. (Carefully monitor the accuracy and quality of work methods.)
  • Promote and follow plant policies regarding safe work and laboratory practices through the prevention of personal injury, conservation of the environment, and protection of Lubrizol property.
  • Openly communicate technical information, both written and orally.
  • Proactively gather and distribute information beyond the needs of current applications.
  • Seek ways to continuously improve customer service.
  • Follow up with customers to ensure problems are resolved.
  • Work on customer complaints.
  • Provide off-hours support to laboratory staff.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications


  • B.S. degree from an accredited university or school or minimum of (4) consecutive years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 5+ year QC experience in Chemical Manufacturing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proven team-player.
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability and willingness to continually learn.
  • Potential to move into a QC managerial position.
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Qualifications


  • Fundamental understanding of SAP.
  • Experience with Agilent Gas Chromatographs and Chemstation software.
  • Experience with ICP
Working Conditions


  • Ability to lift and handle objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to discern colors, read burettes, and has physical capability to operate instrumental analysis equipment.
  • Expected to use appropriate PPE and occasional usage of respirator.
  • Safely work independently and around others by following all required procedures.
