POSITION TITLE: Chaplain
REPORTS TO: Spiritual Life Director
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Exempt
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $57,000-$71,000

GENERAL FUNCTION: The Chaplain provides spiritual leadership to the Silver Bay YMCA guests and employees by developing, planning and leading ecumenical Christian religious activities and providing pastoral care as needed so that the YMCA community might grow and deepen in their spiritual journeys.
SUPERVISION
: This position will report to the Spiritual Life Director. Through regular meetings with the Spiritual Life Director this person will be made aware of their responsibilities, schedule, and current issues.
EDUCATION
:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies or similar area of Christian study (Graduate degree or M.Div. preferred)
- 3-5 years of experience serving in a YMCA or other para-church organization
- Ordination or licensure as a minister required

PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES
:
- Works with the Spiritual Life Director to organize and lead regular worship services, as well as sacramental services (baptisms, weddings, memorial services, interments, etc.)
- Provide pastoral care and spiritual direction to guests and staff.
- Works with the Spiritual Life Director to develop spiritual activities for guests and staff (Bible studies, devotions, labyrinth walks, meditation hikes, vesper services, hymn sings, tent classes, prayer gatherings, etc.) in collaboration with the other members of the Spiritual Life Department.
- Work with the Marketing Department, the Conference Services Department, and the Program Department to provide custom Christian programming for family reunions and groups as requested.
- Foster collaboration with churches and communities of faith in the local area (Hague, Ticonderoga, Bolton Landing, Putnam, etc.)
- Demonstrate hospitality to all guests, with a special focus upon the guests of the Pastoral Respite Ministry at the Silver Bay YMCA.

The Chaplain plays an integral role in the overall success of the Spiritual Life Department and accomplishing the mission of Silver Bay YMCA. Therefore, successful fulfillment of this position will be measured by:
- A strong mission-driven approach to the programs and the activities that come from the Spiritual Life Department.
- Fostering an increasing awareness of and adherence to the YMCA core values among the staff members and guests at Silver Bay YMCA.
- Increasing the pastoral counseling and spiritual direction sessions for YMCA staff members and guests of Silver Bay YMCA.
- Perpetual sustaining of the YMCA Chaplain position.
