The Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM) is seeking a full-time Bookkeeper for our Vienna, Virginia location.

VUIM is a private, non-profit institution dedicated to producing educated healthcare practitioners highly skilled in Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine, trained to provide the community with affordable healthcare services while fostering the growth and practice of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine. We are institutionally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) and currently offer both master’s level and Doctorate level degrees in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Our master’s degrees in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are also accredited to be offered in the Chinese Language and Korean Language. The University operates a full-service Academic Teaching Clinic as well as a Private Practice Clinic where Students and Professional Licensed Practitioners of Acupuncture deliver care to patients through each of our campus locations (Vienna, VA; Ridgefield, NJ; Duluth, GA).

Bookkeeper Role and Reporting Structure

The Bookkeeper reports to Controller and is responsible for general accounting activities at VUIM and its subsidiary schools. Specific duties and responsibilities, as well as the skills and experience required to perform the work, are as follows:

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Inputs supplier invoices into the accounting system, matching the invoices to both purchase orders and packing slips, and coding them to the appropriate general ledger account.

· Maintain vendor records and issue 1099s

· Records all financial transactions from Learning Management System and Electronic Health Record system to accounting system

· Records summary payroll activity from the 3rd party payroll system to the Company’s accounting system.

· Maintains the fixed asset subsidiary ledger, which includes details such as cost, depreciation expense and accumulated depreciation for each asset.

· Assists with the process of ensuring the Company’s physical inventory is consistent with the accounting system detailed inventory by counting inventory, validating unit pricing, conducting analysis, and researching and resolving discrepancies.

· Prepares and posts both recurring and non-recurring journal entries to the general ledger.

· Prepares bank and credit card reconciliations.

· Assist in monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing activities

· Reconciling general ledger accounts to the appropriate detailed listings.

· Assists in the preparation of the annual budget.

· Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements.

· Assists in the preparation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and tracks and reports underlying KPI data.

· Documents accounting processes and procedures and identifies areas of potential process improvement.

· Support reporting quarterly financial data

· Follow up on outstanding balances

· Research and document variances in actual vs. expected financial results.

· Assist in the analysis of sales activity, cost of goods sold, general and administrative expenses and balance sheet accounts.

· Perform benchmarking analysis and conduct special projects as required.

· Develop strong working relationships with team members to foster operational efficiency and a strong Company culture.

· Provide and seek feedback on performance in the spirit of continual improvement.

· Ensure that the principles of transparency, fairness, efficiency, and accountability are evident in all Company actions and activities.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

· One to two years of general accounting experience in a corporate accounting department or on the staff of a public accounting firm

· A Bachelor’s degree in accounting

· Proficient in Microsoft Excel

· Strong analytical skills

· Familiarity with QuickBooks

· Strong communication skills

· Well-rounded business and financial acumen

· Sound judgment and a data-based approach to decision making

· Strong leadership potential

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
