We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Associate Teacher to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the children at all times while assisting the assigned team teacher in the planning and implementation of the daily program. You will be responsible for creating a positive and welcoming environment that encourages children's development and provides them with culturally diverse activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert for the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
  • Assist assigned team teachers in every way possible, including planning and implementing the daily program for assigned classes.
  • Decorate the classroom with bulletin boards, pictures, children's artwork and other hangings.
  • Prepare children's snacks and engage in a dinner table atmosphere with the children.
  • Keep the door area, classrooms, storage areas, and bathrooms clean, neat and orderly.
  • Be familiar with and follow all Title 22 and Title 5 state regulations and center policies.
  • Report to Supervisor/Director and Child Abuse Hotline of any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect immediately.
  • Attend regular staff planning and evaluation meetings.
  • Keep the classroom, storage area, outdoor activity area, kitchen, staff area, office, and bathroom clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Conduct two formal individual conferences with parents of each child if the lead teacher is not able.
  • Handle discipline promptly and in accordance with stated policy on discipline.
  • Report unusual incidents immediately to the Supervisor.

Personal and professional behavior:

  • Obtain, read and understand the personnel handbook, parent handbook job description, and other related materials covering the associate teacher position.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members promoting a positive atmosphere in the center/agency.
  • Hold necessary Child Development Permit for the position.
  • Uphold Title 22 policies, Title 5 policies and Health and Safety regulations.
  • Participate in professional growth activities.
  • Understand professional issues and the need for incorporating professional codes of ethics in educational practice.
  • Be involved in activities of a professional organization.

Classroom Environment:

  • Develop and provide developmentally and culturally appropriate activities.
  • Develop and implement (when needed) conflict management and problem-solving strategies with children.
  • Assist and supervise in the development and maintenance of an appropriate indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Supervise and directly interact with families and children in a warm and positive manner.

Health, Safety, and Nutrition:

  • Implement the program of food service according to established nutritional and food handling guidelines.
  • Follow and train on universal health precautions.
  • Follow center/agency policies and procedures for health and safety.
  • Develop, train, and implement emergency procedures as required.
  • Provide information to staff and parents on health, safety, and transportation policies.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy indoor and outdoor environment.

Working with Families and Communities:

  • Present a positive view of the center to the community.
  • Communicate positively and actively develop reciprocal relationships with parents.
  • Identify special needs of children and/or families.
  • Assist in involving parents in classroom and center activities.
  • Develop and assist in facilitating parent programs and events.
  • Provide information about community resources to parents and staff.

Administration and Management:

  • Facilitate program organization and record keeping.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Promote positive and harmonious communication in all aspects of the center operations.
  • Participate in evaluation and supervision activities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Child Development Permit or the ability to obtain one within the first year of employment.
  • 12 units in early childhood education or related fields preferred.
  • Experience working in a childcare setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $18.00 per hour

Education:

  • Associate (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Early childhood education: 2 years (Required)
  • Teaching: 2 years (Required)
  • Childcare: 2 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
  • Child Development Associate Certification (Preferred)
