Description:SUMMARY
To supervise the Resort and Villas Maintenance team. In charge of all aspects of resort and villas engineering operations including electrical, plumbing, HVAC refrigeration, heating cooling, exterior and interior, painting, recycling, waste, pest control, alarm services, pool and Spas. The Assistant Chief Engineer is also responsible for Life/Fire safety systems and management of other engineering necessary to manage an efficient condition to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees. Insures that the level of operation and quality of service is to the standards of Rancho Valencia as well as maximize profits and manages expenses wherever possible.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinates maintenance to ensure quality of staff meets standards. Ensures labor standards are met, and properly staffed to provide best service possible.
- Motivates all employees to be constantly improving the standard of operation.
- Develops standard methods of operation to ensure consistent level of maintenance in villas, guest rooms, public areas, restaurant, pool and spa.
- Holds daily morning and afternoon line up and monthly Maintenance meetings to discuss solutions to problems and any new activities that arise.
- Responsible to update and monitor Alice work order system.
- Prepares projects list and provides weekly update to the Chief Engineer and Resort Manager
- Attends daily and weekly meetings.
- Attends weekly property walkthrough with Chief Engineer, Director of Housekeeping and Resort Manager
- Analyze daily arrivals and VIP guests to ensure expectations are met and rooms inspected.
- Read Manager on Duty and Security report daily and handle any challenges.
- Talk to staff members regarding areas of opportunities, suggestions, and improvements.
- Maintains supplies and accurate inventories monthly. Implement necessary controls to maximize product life. Maintain operation of equipment.
- Ensures staff on duty is properly dressed and aware of day’s special events and arrival information.
- Prepares weekly staff schedules together with the Chief Engineer and post them by 2 P.M. Thursday.
- Works closely with other departments to ensure quality of service and product.
- Be a member of Safety Committee and adhere to requirements thereof.
- Be a member of the sustainability team and adhere the requirements thereof.
- Ensure assignment of rooms and inspections are consistently implemented.
- Prepare purchase orders.
- Answers the department phone to respond quickly to requests from guests.
- Trains by instruction and practice, both formally and on-the-job; and updates staff on any new laws or regulations necessary to safely perform their tasks.
- Controls all expenditures relating to maintenance, including labor, guest room supplies and all cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Schedule maintenance for lobby area, public restrooms, telephone areas, hallways, entrances, Tennis and Spa shop, locker rooms, showers and pool areas.
- Schedule maintenance for periodic major projects four times a year and recorded preventative maintenance in conjunction with housekeeping.
- Performs any task required to maintain the smooth running of the Engineering Department which may not be listed in this job description.
- Establish written quality assurance inspection report for each maintenance and painter
- Performs monthly supply inventory.
- Maintains a complete knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets as to the correct handling of chemicals.
- Maintains clean, safe and productive work environment.
- Maintains complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; use equipment only as intended.
- Maintains complete knowledge and complies with all departmental policies and service procedures.
- Inspects conditions of the Resort including service areas; rectify any deficiencies and complete any work order. Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and restaurant requirements.
- Performs other duties as directed, developed or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS*
Required
- Minimum of three to five years maintenance management experience in a luxury full service or resort setting.
- Extensive industry knowledge on building maintenance and energy management
- Ability to conduct and lead training on various skill levels to develop future engineers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Knowledge of blueprints, wiring diagrams and computer equipment
- Working knowledge learned on the job or through a series of profession.
- Flexible work schedule including weekends, holidays, and evening shifts
- Valid CA Drivers license and ability to operate golf carts and hotel cars
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
- Prior Luxury Resort and Spa experience
- Previous experience in other Operation departments

TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS
- Infrequent local travel may be required for training, conferences and special events.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting, and climbing. Have frequent need to perform standing and walking activities related to inspecting property.
- Constant need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, turning, finger dexterity.
- Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.
- Lifting/carrying up to 15 lbs. frequently and 30 lbs. occasionally.
- Vision requirements: constant need to view small print. Frequent need to see small details and things clearly beyond arms’ reach.
- Hearing requirements: constant need to speak on the telephone and/or two-way radio, respond to the general public and converse with staff. Ability to hear fire alarms and emergency equipment.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

North American Technicians certification
- HVAC Technician Certification
- Airconditioning, gas heating, gas furnace and R-410 certification.
- A combination of these certificates is required.
Salary: 75,000 to 80,000 per year
