- High school graduate or GED from an accredited institution
- 48 hours of college coursework
- Pass Spring Independent School District’s NCLB test in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics (Tests are administered after the recommendation for hire)
- Educational Aide II Certificate (Or willing to obtain)
- Have obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university
- One+ years’ experience with children
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Assist teacher in preparation of instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
- Assist teacher in preparing/maintaining records/reports required by Federal, State or Local laws/regulations.
- Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning.
- Assist students with physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
- Assist teacher in intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
- Assist in the implementation of behavior plans.
- Assist teacher in data collection requirements, to document student progress.
- Assist teacher in working with individual students or small groups.
- Assist in supervision of students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, and including community trips.
- Inform teacher of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding special education student information.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Participate in training sessions related to the education of students with disabilities.
- Assist students/teacher in instructional activities that occur in the community.
Elementary School

PAY GRADE: Para 4
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The SILC Aide will assist special education teacher to provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting.

Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, moderate standing, stooping, bending, reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. May require some lifting no more than 10lbs. Overtime is required as necessary.
