Job Description


POSITION OVERVIEW

KIPP Chicago is looking for a dynamic and dedicated Achievement Director - Math to become part of a vibrant educational community. This position has been designed to support Math instruction that supports growth to and attainment of grade level proficiency as measured by the Common Core standards and the evolving landscape of supporting student growth to grade level proficiency.

This individual is a teacher with results in the top 5%, has expansive K-12 content knowledge as outlined by the Common Core Standards, and holds a clear vision for a math classroom that supports student growth to grade level achievement AND equity. This leader is specially trained in coaching teachers, content leaders, assistant principals, and school leaders in curriculum implementation, intentional customization to meet student need, and assessing student strengths and areas for growth. They are a vital member of the KIPP Chicago Academic Team and play an important part in region-wide planning, progress monitoring, and championing academic outcomes for all students. The Achievement Director - Math must be energized by and experienced at systems design and implementation, consensus building, facilitating professional learning, and leading our K-8 implementation of Eureka Math Squared at KIPP Chicago.

As such, the role requires a deep commitment to making decisions in service of students and families and to collaboration across school leadership teams, the academic team, and KIPP Foundation national content team. Their impact is felt across all 8 KIPP Chicago schools. The role of the Achievement Director - Math requires regular travel between campuses located in the North Lawndale, Austin, West Humboldt Park, and Englewood communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Achievement Director - Math are focused on but not limited to:

Vision, Goal, and Priority-Setting

  • Collaborate with the Academic Team to set academic vision, invest key stakeholders in vision, continue to align stakeholders in priorities over the scope of a school year

Curriculum & Assessment Instructional Support

  • In collaboration with the KIPP Foundation and the KIPP Chicago Achievement Directors, APs, and School Leaders, design and implement a research Eureka Math Square curriculum across our K-8 continuum of students
  • Support Math teachers in designing & implementing rigorous and culturally responsive lessons that meet the rigor bar of Common Core standards for mathematics.
  • Collaborate with the academic team to set academic vision, invest key stakeholders in vision, continue to align stakeholders in priorities over the scope of a school year

Design & Facilitate Professional Learning

  • Lead ongoing professional development region-wide to School Leaders, Assistant Principals, Math Teachers. This includes but is not limited to Eureka Math Squared alignment and planning
  • Adapt and train all School Leaders and Assistant Principals on content specific coaching protocols and rubrics to better meet the coaching needs of Math teachers.
  • Build and manage relationships with varied stakeholders (Teachers, APs, School Leaders) that foster alignment and hold everyone accountable to demonstrating progress towards regional mathematics goals and proficiency outcomes

Data Analysis

  • Manage the effective facilitation of all standardized assessments taken by students, including Interim Assessments, and other curriculum assessments that are coming from the curriculum adoption.
  • Roll up all student achievement data for students to provide analysis of progress towards benchmarks
  • Identify strategic levers of improvement along with aligned action plans that ensure the grade level mastery of math content is demonstrated over time


Qualifications


The qualifications for the Achievement Director - Math include:

  • Possess a current Illinois teacher license equivalent out-of-state license that will transfer to Illinois (required).
  • At least 4-5 years of experience working full time as a Math teacher across grades K-8 with a track record of strong grade-level proficiency achievement and learning outcomes with students while implementing a grade level, Common Core aligned curriculum
  • Experience leading academic programming at the regional or network level is strongly preferred. Leading the Math instructional program for at least one primary (K-4) or middle school (5-8) is a minimum requirement to be considered for this role (aka Department Chair, Assistant Principal, Instructional Coach)
  • Experience teaching and leading teachers and students to achieve academic success in traditionally under-resourced communities.
  • Experience designing, implementing, progress monitoring and holding teachers and leaders accountable to best practices in the areas of instruction and math instruction in particular
  • Unquestioned ethics, integrity, and commitment to the KIPP Chicago mission and willingness to serve the KIPP Chicago community.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills as well as a commitment to continuous learning, self-reflection, leading, and coaching across differences.
