Position Description

Youth Ministry Leader

Purpose: To serve primarily as faith leader for the junior high and senior high youth of Eden United Church of Christ; to plan and teach lessons that reflect the core values and beliefs of Eden United Church of Christ; to plan and lead activities and outings that promote fellowship; to coordinate adult volunteers and parents to support the work of Youth Ministry.

Competencies:

• Help our youth grow in their faith with God and knowledge of scripture

• Have the ability to connect with youth relationally and to foster healthy interpersonal relationships among the youth

• Possess the ability to teach/model how faith informs our lives and how we live

• Encourages evangelism with an “invite a friend” mentality

• Work collaboratively with the Pastor, Church Council, Christian Education Committee, parents and volunteers

• Exhibit strong communication and organization skills and the ability to work well with church staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities:

• Lead 3 monthly Sunday School lessons for students in grades 6-12, 10:30-11:30am. These lessons occur on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sunday of the month.

• Lead monthly fellowship activity or outing. Date and times for these events are flexible but considerate of school hours and school nights.

• Attend the monthly zoom meeting of the Chistian Ed. Committee.

• Complete Safe Church training and background screening.

• Provide a year-end summary for the church’s Annual Report Hours

Compensation:

The position is $15/hour, 15 hours per month. Additional hours may be negotiated for special events, such as a lock-in or mission trip. Time allotted for planning and communication may be done remotely.

This position reports to the Congregation by way of the Church Council. The Youth Ministry Leader works closely with the Pastor to ensure theological consistency.
