This position is accountable for providing structure welding at marine or railroad project locations for Russell Marine, LLC. The welder performs tasks various structural welds in the construction or repair of marine terminals, dock facilities, and/or railroad bridges. Typically the welder will work closely with the Foreman and other skilled or semi-skilled craft workers.

Works as assigned by the Foreman to ensure successful completion of on-going or new marine or railroad construction projects.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is accountable for providing structure welding at marine or railroad project locations for Russell Marine, LLC. The welder performs tasks various structural welds in the construction or repair of marine terminals, dock facilities, and/or railroad bridges. Typically the welder will work closely with the Foreman and other skilled or semi-skilled craft workers.

Works as assigned by the Foreman to ensure successful completion of on-going or new marine or railroad construction projects.

• Welds structural steel in all positions.
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, flange lineup pins, wrap arounds, center finders, and rulers.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
• Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
• Responsible and accountable for employee’s own personal safety, as well as the safety of all co-workers and any others the employee comes in contact with.
• Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director, or HR Manager.
• This position may require long hours and weekend work; travel may be required; some out-of-town and overnight travel may be expected.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent; or minimum of six months to one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training which provides the necessary welding skills, knowledge and abilities is required.

The employee should have 1-3 years’ experience in structural welding, and must be able to pass Weld Test at a testing facility designated by the Company.

The employee must have:

• Knowledge of practices and materials of the welding craft & trade, and be capable of demonstrating proficiency to perform the job.
• Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment and devices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
• Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results-driven

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, Welders must also be capable of:

• Walking, stepping, climbing or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
• Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing or sitting for long periods of time.
• Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
• Climbing vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
• Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
• Lifting objects of minimum of 10lbs, with maximum single-person lift limit of 50lbs, with frequent lifting and carrying.
• Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
