AmeriCorps Community Based Position Details


Position Summary:

The member will increase the capacity of the agency by providing academic assistance and/or service-learning activities to students in the program. Each student will receive one-on one and/or small group instruction in before during and/or after-school programs.


Schedule:
Full Time Hours Monday - Friday: May include a few weekend days during the term of service for special service projects or activities promoting civic engagement.

Gross Living Allowance: $860 paid on the 15th and last day of each month of enrollment. Amount is pretax.


$14,620 - Gross Living Allowance for 1300 hour position (34 Weeks)

$4,546 - Education Award


Schedule: PT Hours 3-4 days per week Monday - Friday: May include a few weekend days during the term of service for special service projects or activities promoting civic engagement.

Gross Living Allowance: $560 paid on the 15th and last day of each month of enrollment. Amount is pretax.


$10,080 - Gross Living Allowance for 900 hour position (36 /weeks)

$3,247 - Education Award

Gross Living Allowance: $256.67 paid on the 15th and last day of each month of enrollment. Amount is pretax.


$4,620.00 - Gross Living Allowance for 450 hour position (36 /weeks)

$1,718.25 - Education Award


Definition of Living Allowance: money distributed to individuals to meet basic living needs. Living allowance is not considered money earned as during employment. Members are not classified as employees. Therefore members are not subject to employee benefits or eligible for unemployment. A living allowance may not affect other benefits such as social security, retirement, or other assistance benefits.


The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is offered to individuals who complete a term of service and can be used to pay for a range of education/training expenses. Examples include: repaying qualified student loans, future tuition payments, skill training programs and more. You can earn up to 2 Full Time Education awards while serving up to 4 service terms.


TERM LENGTH - Ongoing Enrollment Beginning August 22, 2022


8 months for 450 hour position

9 months for 900 hour position

8.5 months for 1300 hour position


Loan Deferment & Interest Forbearance: Individuals in approved AmeriCorps positions are eligible for forbearance for most federally guaranteed student loans. In addition, interest payments that accrue during service may be eligible for repayment by AmeriCorps. Generally, the Trust pays all interest for members serving full time who complete their term of service.

AmeriCorps members serving in community based programs could participate in any of the following activities:

  • Provide a safe haven and homework help for students through before and after school and/or summer programs,
  • Plan and implement one-on-one or small group activities for at-risk students to promote healthy, positive social interactions and self-confidence, improve behavior, and decrease disciplinary issues.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, serving as a role model to encourage character building habits and important social and life skills
  • Build a community-agency bridge through new and ongoing partnerships, increasing the capacity of the program to provide expanded learning opportunities
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment for children through facility preparation, and ongoing and after program upkeep
  • Encourage good eating habits by assisting with the preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks during the implementation of program activities
  • Increase parent/family involvement by planning and implementing activities and creating outreach materials that engage families in children and youth development
  • Collaborate with agency staff to monitor youth progress using written evaluations, observation notes, and/or other site-specific tools and protocols
  • Increase the capacity of the agency to provide instruction in health and wellness, recreation, art, teambuilding, music, science, literacy, technology and/or math

Additional activities could be assigned by the host site and will be provided on the member's service description upon acceptance.
